While seeing the new Bond film this weekend, I was seriously impressed with Jack White's guitar tone on the song during the opening credits. Does he have other songs that have seriously delicious guitar tones? I like everything from ridiculously processed (Isley Brothers -- Who's That Lady; Shotgun Messiah's Violent New Breed; Nine Inch Nails; Landmind-era Ministry; etc.) to some nice subtle compression with maybe a little bit of tube distortion (Tommy Bolin's Savannah Woman; Al di Meola's Ritmo de la Noche; Eric Johnson) to some nice dirty spittle-flying guitar tones (ELO's Ma Ma Ma Belle; godhead's Fall Away) to ...uh, I don't know what to call it -- let's just call i…

Does anybody know about these? I see new LP's of old Blue Note albums at the record store for 10-12 bucks. Some are 180/200 Gram Vinyl, and some come with cds. I'd love to know how these are, and if they use the newer SH/KG masterings, or RVG's, or what.

So a friend of mine has been bugging me to transfer some cassette tapes. I am always willing to help out but the problem holding me back was that I didn't have a cassette tape player. Now, as far back as I can remember (1985), my father hated cassette tapes. Almost everyone I knew growing up didn't like them because 1) they jammed, 2) they didn't sound as good as the LP and 3) the art was crap. I guess I grew up with this bias (PUN!). Was just looking at the Late Night TV listings on interbridge.com and would have never caught this otherwise. Had no idea Tricky had a new album coming out next week. Could be cool I guess. For the unitiated, this is the Tricky that was with Massive Attack on Blue Lines and Protection.

The whole Hoffman/Gray Blue Note remasters and all of that stuff is great, but 45 bucks for one album is just too much to spend on an album unless I'm absolutely sure it has unsurpassed sound quality. What are the definite must haves in both music in sound quality? There are just too many times where I've read about some expensive new LP version of something that doesn't actually give any improvement, or is worse than the original.

Wolfgang Voigt- Gas Some of you might be familiar with the electronic work by Gas. This is the same thing, except just some unreleased material not found on their other CDs. I have not heard his other releases under his own name, only the stuff released under Gas. It's hard to review this album, but to sum it up it's just an excellent dark ambient album that really draws you into the music. The downside is it isn't very long, under an hour and every time it comes to a close I'm wanting to hear more.

I vaguely remember someone commenting on it here in the past, but "RVG" was too short for the forum software to search.
