For those of you who are living under a rock, Sarah McLachlan's Wintersong album is now out, got myself a copy the day it was released. Yes it's a christmas album, but it's got Sarah special touch, I actually like it more than her Afterglow album. Also out on CD is the full uncut version of Mirroball, this is a 2 CD set that contains the entire concert set. Yeah there's overlap with the Afterglow Live CD/DVD set but it's different enough to be worth it. While I was at the store I also saw the A Piano: the Collection which is the Tori Amos box set that comes in a piano keyboard. I didn't buy it but I took a look at the track listings and it seems pretty interesting. I'l…

  2. THIS ONE IS ON US | This One Is On Us There are multiple versions either there, or on the way, including a Blu-Ray version for downloading. Dual Layer DVD and smaller iPod-able and you-tube quality versions are up right now. Here's the link for the dual layer DVD one http://thisoneisonus.org/files/TOIOU_NIN_AVOTT_GIFT_DVDDL.torrent Says, at least the BR, I guess, is 1080p and 5.1 sound. **BRENT**

Is it worth picking up all of them in this box? Amazon.com: Mozart The Symphonies: Sir Charles Mackerras, Mozart: Music The price is certainly right. Apparently its a cheaper version of a more expensive box. Not sure what the packaging is like.

I am a big fan of the ECM and MA Records labels. I have found most of the recordings from these labels have great music detail and mixing, especially anything Todd mixes over at MA Records is exceptional in sonic quality. My dilemma is that both labels are very deep in talent and have many CDs available and I am reluctant to just randomly pick CDs without knowing what I am getting. Both labels have an eclectic roster of talent but some of it is just a little bit out there for me at this point and I would rather not buy a CD just to have to wait a while for it to grow on me. Any recommendations? What artists have you purchased and liked?

  10. What the hell is going on at 1:39 of this track? That's more than a kick drum. On a side note: I challenge anyone with good bass on their headphones to listen to that track and say that the bass at that point isn't "visceral" (NSFW -- "I don't give a fuck you fucking fuck" being amongst the lyrics). You should feel that bass down somewhere around your diaphragm.

So those who have it - how do you like it? It's on my list of musics to get at some point, but those damn XRCDs are pricey.

Just got an email from Mosaic Records and they mentioned the Jazz Record Collectors’ Bash next weekend. Thought those around New Jersey may be interested. Make sure to watch "Ghost World" beforehand.

I'm a little late posting this. The sale started a few days ago but you lucky New Yorkers should check this out. I've been following ARC music archives since they picked themselves up after 9/11 and they have grown in leaps and bounds. So, even if you can't make it to the record sale, spend a little time checking out the great work they are doing to preserve the less formal music that gets overlooked by folks like the Library of Congress and the British Library. http://arcmusic.org/support/record-sale/

The chart colors are a little iffy, but if you squint the conclusions are pretty clear. File sharing hurts record labels and benefits artists. Not only are artists now making much more money from live performances, but their total share of the music industry pie is growing as the labels' share declines.

So, this is a really stupid question, but I was wondering if DVD-A discs have PCM 24/96 tracks on them? If I have a transport that can play the PCM information off of DVD-V discs, is there any reason it won't work with DVD-A discs? Thanks!

Just a heads up for anyone who may not have realized the day was here... Goldfrapp - [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Seventh-Tree-Special-Goldfrapp/dp/B0011FXLCC/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1204040010&sr=8-1]Seventh Tree[/ame] came out today. I've been lucky enough to have been listening to this for a few months now and all I can say is... While it's unmistakabley Goldfrapp, it's unlike anything they've done before. Alison's voice is a great as ever, and if anything, Will's stripped down soundscapes that are probably closest to folk provide an even better stage to showcase that voice. It's far closer to Felt Mountain than Black Cherry or Supern…

In April I'm going to New Orleans to see Ministry at the House of Blues. I'm pretty pumped since I've loved Ministry since 6th grade and have never seen them live. Touring with Al & Co. are two bands called Meshuggah and Hemlock. I did a little research and Meshuggah last night on amazon, and they sound like a pretty badass math-metal band. Hemlock I know nothing of. I'd like some albums recommendations for Meshuggah and Hemlock if any of you have any (Dusty?). Thanks!
