I've been trying to find a way to list my iTunes library. For my reference out in the world, and for sharing w/ folks. Dusty tunes didnt work; nor did several other export options. I had previously been using Tree Copy on the PC, but its kind of annoying since you cant really scroll w/out navigating into each directory. Turns out you can do it straight in iTunes, and you can also even grab the album art. This is a godsend. I guess like most of us, I go through periods of enjoying what I have, periods of really investigating one or two artists or genres, periods of not even listening much at all, and periods where I'm in exploratory mode. I'm moving into that last mode now, and am looking for things I probably wouldn't find on my own. I thought it might be fun (at least for me) if my friends would recommend one or two choices that you think I should have. I'm pretty open to most anything, want to broaden my tastes, definitely could use some classical suggestions, but have an extremely low tolerance for bouncy-happy-pop or what I like to call wimp rock (e.g., coldplay and all those horribl…

I have been listening to some Flim & the BB's albums lately, not my usual preferred type of music, but I did enjoy it a lot. Music is very nice and production is very 80's, but recording quality itself was so fricking cool. Dynamic range on my original CD from the 80's is very impressive, it can go from very soft to explosive in a split second and shows what a good setup can do. I have a few other CDs like that, like some Russian choir recording, but not a lot. Any suggestion for good music with wild very dynamic recording? Binaural and extremely dynamic would be even better

Interesting Radio 4 program, listen-able on BBC's iPlayer in the US, (for the next 2 days) here: BBC - BBC Radio 4 Programmes - The Art of Re-mastering Sara Mohr-Pietsch explores digital re-mastering: is it the art of restoring music to its original glory; or just another way of selling us music we already own? The whole of the Beatles back catalogue has recently been re-released in re-mastered form; a quick search of any record store or online shop will reveal that a large number of recordings have been re-mastered, from very old crackly recordings to very recent releases. But what do the words 'digitally re-mastered' on a cd actually mean? Sara Mohr-Pietsch …

Who's going to support their local record store on "Record Store Day"? http://www.recordstoreday.com/Home It looks like there will be a lot of new releases and exclusives sold on Record Store Day (RSD). And some stores will have quite a few special events. Amoeba in Hollywood is giving away 250 wristbands to see Smashing Pumpkins perform on RSD if you preorder their boxset. Slash will be signing his new album. Salzer's in Ventura will be having some bands play and Coheed & Cambria will be doing a signing. Looks like quite a bit of good fun.

Back in the '90s, my favourite hi-fi store was selling high-end gear made by a small Australian company, named after its founder, Kostas Metaxas. At the time it was impressively better than famous brand names (in Australia at least) for what they were asking. They certainly were pretty hard-core about their designs, for example: Anyway, aside from that, I found they had put up some recording samples they'd made of jazz and classical, which, apart from a considerably amount of background hiss, are pretty good. Metaxas Audio Systems Hope you all enjoy them.
