  1. Yesterday my wife and I celebrated (slightly late) our 9th wedding anniversary. We dropped the kids of at Nana and Papa's and headed into Boston. Grabbed a few drinks first at the Top of the Hub and then at Jerry Remy's and then headed to Fenway to watch a rare Red Sox win. We were behind home plate, 7 rows off the field and before the game we noticed that a few folks were heading onto the field so we figured we'd give it a try. I'm pretty sure we weren't supposed to be out there but that didn't stop us.

  2. Nevermind. I just remembered that the speakers came with grills. Duh.

  4. I have a 2 year old staying at the house this week and I am afraid she is going to want to put legos or some other toy in the front port of my Monitor Audio 6 (for some reason Tim wants to have her play right next to the speaker system). The speakers have front ports. Would it be ok to cover the front ports with some sort of light cloth for the week (while the system is on). This is the main tv setup so I can't put the speakers in a different room. I'm not so concerned about the sound but whether it could damage the amplifier. My guess is that is probably ok but will look like shit. I was thinking of using thin like a disposable dish cloth like this.

  5. I would just electrify the speakers.

  6. I say wrap the kid, or the Lego bricks!

  7. After putting them on, wrap the whole speaker in blankets so the kid doesn't stick her finger through the grills.

  11. Somewhat seriously. Some subs have foam inserts you can use to block the ports off. Look like a cut up pool noodle.... Also, I would be way more nervous about the drivers (even with grills) ... this coming from someone with kids and some dented drivers. In this case I would recommend upgrading to electrostatics, as they offer greater... "deterrent"

  12. Given that we do the same to meat and it's the traditional Christmas meal I can't say I'm surprised. One of the breweries also used dried whale in one of their brews which caused a lot of ruckus. In other news, I've been experimenting with making beer bread where I take the barley after they are done with it and use it in bread. Tastes pretty awesome and I've also been making sour dough out of the barley by letting it ferment a bit. One of the most challenging mixes to work with was Surtur which is also one of the most non-PC names you can find. No other way of translating that except "blackie"...

  15. Had a little fun shooting SFO by the bay this evening on my way to the hotel. First time using the 85 1.8G in "the wild", and this little lens sure looks like a keeper. (Part of a program I'm on to transition my DSLR system to only primes, and set my mirrorless kit up with the zoom for convenience/casual pics).
