  1. Well, I can cheerfully report that the mad phono stage sounds absolutely stunning. I've been going through record after record and depending on what I'm listening to I've giggled, sung along and wept depending on what I've got on. Kind of standard with the territory it takes a long time to warm up. There are three servos - one to null the voltage across the cartridge to zero. One to null the output of the input stage to zero, and one to null the output of the second stage to zero. Given that every stage runs hot, and that there are two of these per balanced channel it takes a while to sort itself out and stabilise. It will remain on permanently. Thank heavens it does sound stunning - given the overall cost of circuit boards, parts (lot of em), and time in build and test, layout and procurement of the shunt regulator boards etc - I would have been royally pissed off if it had sounded not good!
  2. Took the Jones out on some super simple singletrack for a try out. Definitely handles much better than the fatbike. The Fizik Aliante saddle will need to go but everything else seem to be just what I was looking for. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. ^ They have been available new at or below that price since launch if one were to do a little bargaining. Maybe they've just run out of customers to buy at the 4k price point?
  4. Lots of days clearing brush and patching roofs. Will catch up with you guys on the weekend. Am doing good.
  5. Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark -- The Punishment of Luxury Lot of Kraftwerk in evidence, not that that's a bad thing.
  6. I had never heard it before. So good.
  7. Opamp caps are 0603 package and use 300 ohm resistors for 2V LEDs (actual in circuit voltage will be more like 1.9). You need to at least somewhat match the LEDs before soldering them in so buy some extras Edit: Y5V caps aren't good, if you are bothering with .1% resistors then get X8R/NP0 or at least X7R

  9. If you haven't read it yet, and are in to philosophy, Ozgur, I HIGHLY recommend Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance when you are ready to read something fictional. As a fellow philosophy fan, It is one of the handful of books I can honestly say changed my life. It is also a good one to read if you are ever feeling depressed.
  10. Nah, TMoney, just for curiousity. But maybe one day, why not
  11. ^ Busy working on your Ph.D in philosophy?
  12. You can generally get discounts on expensive headphones by asking. I'm assuming Adorama is intentionally burning bridges for a quick gain. I guess that's retail these days.
  13. On that other site, someone has been using rubber bands on their 009's headband, which apparently creates more clamping force, but in doing so has broken part of the headband. Now if I still signed in on that site ( which I haven't done since May ) I could send them a PM explaining the headband I did for my 009's shown in the photo, which feels slightly more tight ( but still extremely comfortable ) than the Stax original headband, but seeing how I'm not signing in on that site ever again, they'll either have to carry on with the rubber bands, or come up with a different idea. ?
  14. i love the fact that there is a computer mouse on the platter for no reason.
  15. if you have more than one cartridge and several TT's with different arms, a good protractor is more than worth the cash. that thing costs way too much though! you could get the excellent Dr.Feickert protractor for way less. http://www.analogueseduction.net/alignment-tools/dr-feickert-ng-high-precision-alignment-tool.html doesn't come with a mirror and magnifier though, but you could afford to buy those with the money saved
  16. Just finished Words of Radiance -- epic! Can't wait for book 3 (of the Stormlight Archive, Oathbringer), and can't wait for book 5 of the Demon Cycle. I'll probably read Norse Mythology now.

  20. The horror, the horror. Basically this is the final Erno Borbely design. It is a current mode phono stage, where the cartridge looks into close to zero impedance. First stage with parallel J40/K170, and a power stage to drive the passive RIAA. Then a 40dB gain stage with power stage to drive the output. It can be configured many different ways: No feedback first stage, with input R of about 4 ohms for higher R moving coils Feedback first stage which reduces input R to tiny value for low R moving coils. Can be run single ended or balanced input, and single ended or balanced output. I've set it up as a no-feedback version, fully balanced IO. There is a bal2unbal board which I currently have not wired in. Shunt regulator for each board, layout by moi. Dual power supply, each with dual bridge rectifier and lots of smoothing cap.
