  1. Just dropped Lance and Mary off at LAX where they will be flying Clown Car Airlines to Milwaukee for a tournament. Fingers crossed.

  2. I have been using Roon for some time now and I really like it. Roon points at (my own library and Tidal) 300+ tracks of Bye Bye Blackbird – and Sarah Vaughan did one in Tokyo, 24 September 1973?. 2CD - great album.

  3. These "Playing for Change" videos are amazing! Saw Larkin Poe this year at Monterey. Worth a ticket if they come to your town.

  5. There are quite a few issues with using the SoCas adapters to fit the modern stax pads on an old set. First and foremost these headphones are designed to have angled pads while the Lx00-series Have the driver itself angled. If you want to use conventional pads on stax that is a VERY bad idea. The volume of the pads is significantly larger than what the driver is intended for and you'll end up with a boomy mess. I'd say you should just stick to the type of pads that are meant for your headphone, or at least close. Stax still sells the EP234 pads which is what you are looking for if your old pads are worn.

  6. Fox On the Run – Sweet From The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard (2009 film) trailer – ratings are really bad on this movie, so I'll give it a pass but thanks for the sweet song (also to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 for bringing it back):

  7. Yes, sound quality is horrible but one of the great advantages of YouTube is that today, an unknown artist/musicians can make themselves known very quickly. Youtube has come to replace the radio in that sense: Youtube killed to the radio star....

  8. I have many versions of "Bye Bye Blackbird" but without a doubt my favorite is here: Miles Davis "round about midnight" legacy edition

  9. I cut my teeth on that album. Didn’t realize there were different versions, but I probably have the same one your brother had. The bizarre processing on “I Wanna Be Committed” resonated with me even when I was an actual, literal child, rather than the childman I am now.

  10. Played the first two hours last night. Hideo-mother-fu#$ing-Kojima! This is so damn weird and I love it! I'm thinking I might not be going outside much this weekend. -- EDIT: Finished it. A stunning piece of entertainment. It takes gigantic risks in a way that is so rare in AAA-budget entertainment. Kojima set out to make a game about connecting people and boy does he deliver.

  11. I agree. I bought a Bluetooth speaker for parties and such this summer and I don't care about formats, aptX, Apple AAC wireless or any of that for simple listening. If I want to listen to music on my phone or iPod, I'll rip it to 320kbps AAC or Apple Lossless, and my fancy-schmancy SACDs only get played on my Sony UHP-H1. Heck, a lot of my music listening is done on YouTube, which is terrible for sound quality.

  12. I read that snippet in the Simpsons' Comic Book Guy voice in my head. Found a layman-friendly explanation with audio clips here: https://www.audiomasterclass.com/newsletter/the-difference-between-minimum-phase-and-linear-phase-eq-on-transient-signals-such-as-snare-drum I grabbed a copy of Sound On Sound magazine this month as I've been told we'll be recording musicians at work next year... it's fun to read about new gear, but I have to slow down to decode all the engineering jargon. Then I wonder if all those knobs and switches can be done in software instead of yet another box. More filter stuff from Archimago: http://archimago.blogspot.com/2018/01/musings-more-fun-with-digital-filters.html Leave it to the trolls to sound reasonable and objective: https://troll-audio.com/articles/linear-and-minimum-phase/

  15. JP, got one myself, using it at work. Spot on IMO when you say "Lots of texture and spatial cues." Using mine with Cardas-cabled Senn 650's. BTW, when I first went to install the driver, something hiccupped on my machine....it gave me a message that made me sad in an Austin Powers kind of way (OK now)
