I just knew that of anywhere on Her Majesty's Interpipes, here would be where people were alert to the sight of a popped capacitor đ Also, thanks, having a lot of fun with my little modular, even if I'm barely scratching the surface of some of the more complex modules. Regarding your MIDI question, if you just want to turn a device with USB MIDI into old-style DIN MIDI, this is one of the more straightforward and bombproof solutions: https://kentonuk.com/product/midi-usb-host-mkii/ Kenton have been making MIDI problem solvers for years (their MIDI to CV converters are justly famous for their reliability). It ain't fancy-looking, but it will get the job done. That said, I would hate to make assumptions- if you want something more fancy that can tie ALL THE THINGS together, these are very well-regarded: https://www.bome.com/products/bomebox If you need to connect multiple USB-MIDI clients to the Bomebox, I believe that an MTT-compliant powered USB hub will work nicely. (I have one of these- https://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/fh2.html - but it's probably overkill for anyone who doesn't already have a rack to bolt it into. Lovely, if cryptic, bit of kit.)3 points

It was destiny! In season 2 episode 3 of A Series of Unfortunate Events (which I believe maps over to book #612), they introduced Esmé Squalor, clearly named after the Salinger short For Esmé, with Love and Squalor, which a certain other Esmé is named for. She just smiled the whole episode.3 points

Thomas Beecham, the orchestra conductor whose quotes could fill a book, was asked by a lady acquaintance what instrument her son ought to take up: "I have no hesitation madam in recommending the bagpipes. Because they sound exactly the same when you have finished learning them as when you start learning them"2 points

"Better" is a relative term, each has its advantages and disadvantages. There are several SR007Mk1 variations (70xxx with the carbon box, 71xxx, SZ1) and it is probably very hard to find a 'golden' sample now, because why would anyone sell such a headphone, unless he is completely unaware of the differences and happen to accidentally own such a pair. And without comparing two SR007 headphones side-by-side(maybe new pads on both and a properly seating headband, since both may also affect the sound), it may be difficult to evaluate it. So for practical purposes, the Mk2.9 should be a better, safer option.1 point

Thank you , I was happy with it too.. literally just a lunchtime patch and it all clicked into place. Old junglists never quite reform, it seems. Yep. That's a blown cap on a Eurorack power bus board. I had a cap pop on me, in an unpatched but powered rack. I pulled all the modules out, and nothing seems to have been damaged thank goodness (especially not my shiny new Disting EX module, which are hard to come by right now). It was a brand new case, too. I was a bit shaken by that. It's not like I was drawing much at all, either. That happened the day before. I transferred those modules to a spare skiff case I had kicking about, and felt like I should mark the lucky escape.1 point

I am not sure if there is a "target" biasing. I've tried between 150mA to over 200mA and settled on 180mA IIRC.1 point

If anyone wants to play the video game equivalent of comfort food, I can highly recommend VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action. It's a short visual novel style game but with no dialogue options and gameplay is mostly limited to mixing drinks for customers (and trying to figure out the right drink when they make vague requests or order something different than what they really want), setting up a playlist on the jukebox, and decorating your apartment when you can afford to. Despite that, it's easily one of the best games I've played in recent years, with an array of memorable characters and stories that will have you bursting out laughing one minute, and feeling like you got sucker punched in the gut the next.1 point

I've been listening to her without watching her all day, and I think I figured it out. Her silent motions are the visual portion of the performance, because her playing is so meticulous that she imparts no personality onto the music (and thatâs a good thing). You know how when you hear Keith Jarrett or Brad Mehldau (or more obviously, Miles Davis or David Gilmour), you know immediately who's playing? Not with her, I can't. She lets the (beautiful) music speak for itself. I would love to hear her play some Schubert or Bach, or any other kind of music that "plays itself". So her movements at the bench are the visual portion of the performance. Or maybe she just can't help herself, maybe she's just that moved by the music. Oh well, don't know, don't care, I enjoy, and she obviously does too, and that's all that matters. On the bright side, she does Pictures -- one of my favourite pieces for piano, EVAR -- her performance of it might have just zoomed into the top spot for me. Thanks for reminding me of her. By the way, I had heard her before, in a collaboration she did with Ălafur Arnalds, The Chopin Project, which I also enjoyed. Really wish I was paying more attention at the time, would've seen her live. That was 5 years ago. Unrelated-- jazz:1 point

Headphone section is just adding resistors, the number of which is determined by Jumpers on top of the board (first photo is showing top of circuit board). The bottom of board shows Jupiter Copper Foil caps I rolled in place of (upgraded) Mundorf Silver/gold, and bottom right of photo shows resistor arrays for headphone output. It's too bad the headphone jack cannot deliver enough power for my Abyss because it would have been so much more convenient to keep my speakers hooked up to speaker posts and Abyss to front headphone jack, which automatically cuts off speaker outputs đ1 point
