Building the world’s least efficient hardwood cutoff storage cabinet. Really needed the drawers above it so instead of doing the typical, proper, vertical cabinet, I went half-assed and threw all the sticks in a big drawer with sheets goods held behind the cabinet against the wall. Oh Yeah, the reason for the uneven overhang is I am going to mount the Wilton Woodworking vice on the one side and needed all the clearance. Oh Yeah Part Two, I also FINALLY got around to hanging the small French cleat panel I made way back. The craftsmanship in these holders in embarrassing.2 points

Cannot even find anything in Texas now. The ones around here that have anything not low end in stock have started adding a $5k market adjustment price to everything.1 point

Phew. Writing up a review of KSIA's first album is gonna take a bit so I cranked out one for their Campus Martius EP. There might be a few typos. I'm tired. This is what all the fuss is about.1 point

Tax prep all day. Down to the wire, but basically done at this point. Currently taking a break and writing a review of KSIA's first studio album. You know, the one that came out in late 2013. I've made it a goal to review all of their major releases on Discogs throughout the year.1 point

Officially updated the build. Truck was built on the 27th of April and will now sit in a parking lot until August waiting for fucking chips for delivery in September. Time to cancel and fly to Texas to buy a truck.1 point

Not sure which news you are referring to, but why would I want one of those hooptys?1 point

Diana Rigg and Anthony Hopkins, taken when they were acting in MacBeth at the National Theatre in 1972. I'd walk over hot coals to turn back the clock and see what must have been a superb performance.1 point

They are the Phoenix Mate-N-Lok-2 connectors. They are rated at 600V which is nice.1 point

Thirded with Bryan and Steve and Jim. so that means I’m 4th. headphone soundstage is an auditory illusion created by the recording itself and influenced heavily by ones gear and mental state.1 point

I agree with both of these. Some headphones do better than others but speakers do better and unless you have a shitload of money to throw at your system, live concerts are always better.1 point

The R10 and Qualia are still two cups on either side of your head. The soundstge is still inside your head. It might be wider, but you can't close your eyes and locate the instruments on a stage. They'll never be in front of you, but instead they're inside of you.1 point

i don't understand the staging critique of Utopia. since when does any headphone ever do a proper sound stage?1 point

The Fall - on Amazon Prime So Fiona Apple named her latest album after a line from this show. She is a pretty damn smart woman so I figured if she enjoyed the show it can't be that bad, right? Turns out Ms. Apple lead me down a good path! The Fall is a super-tense, deliberately paced police procedural set in Belfast. I finished the first series (season) and I'm hooked.1 point

i had general impressions of Utopia ready within an hour of receiving them but took the week to work through various material (still a lot to go). significant upgrade from Elex and Clear. there's a bigger gap from Clear to Utopia than Elex to Clear and i think it's because Utopia does things that Clear simply cannot HD600 comparison is apt, actually i think Utopia is more in-line with presentation of HD600/580 than Clear or Elear. there's a subtlety and smoothness to Utopia that is not in Clear, in hindsight i actually may be finding Clear a little wild now in it's presentation god-tier detail, imaging, bass, PRaT not bright. not to me. had some female vocals at time that i thought were slightly-off tonally and then went back to HD580 to compare and it was effectively identical the most unexpected thing is how easy they are to listen to. you'd think with this insane level of detail that it would be devoid of emotion or push you out of zen state... well i have the complete opposite experience. shocking ability for intimacy. so... yeah. this headphone concludes my adventure. there's nowhere else i care to go. TLDR Nums put it right.1 point

Here's one for Joachim It a low voltage version of the GR78xx Micro. It's only .45"(W) x .8"(H). It can run from 5V to 20V (with the right parts). I still need to do the negative. Here's what it looks like... I also re-did the layout of the larger version that can support up to 50V now. I can also do a supply that accepts these regulators, but pretty much any board designed for the LM78xx/LM79xx should support them.1 point

I've just been learning Eagle. They have a great integration to Fusion 360 since it was purchased by Autodesk. I've redone the GR78xx as my first test. Still learning a lot, but getting there. Here's some renderings after I pushed it to Fusion... I've still got some work to do, but this looks very promising. Most things seem to be rendering properly, though the solder mask isn't coming over and the fonts seem off a bit. Once I have my boards in Eagle, I'll be able to drop the boards into my mechanical models. I'm very excited PS My plan was to use only three pins to connect to the main PS board. Pins 1 & 5 are duplicates of 2 & 4.1 point
