  1. Just before they pulled the patch off of my eye, they told me that more times than not, your vision won't be fully matured for about a week. Then they took off the patch and immediately tested my vision. Right out of the gate I could easily read the 20/20 line of the chart. I could read all but two of the letters on the 20/15 line. The Dr. told me that at my appointment next Thursday, she wouldn't be at all surprised if my vision was 20/15. She said that happens in about the top 10% of patients. I couldn't be happier. It's so nice to be able to see in stereo vision once again. It's been about 2 years since I've had any real vision out of my right eye. And my depth perception is fully back! I may need readers in a dark restaurant, but I'm typing and reading this now with no glasses on.😎

  3. Surgery went well. I'll have a patch on until tomorrow, so can't really assess my vision just yet.

  4. That’s great news, though I’m a little disappointed we won’t have a full time pirate as part of the crew.

  8. Just got driven into the city. Sitting at UCSF waiting for cataract surgery. I only have a cataract in my right eye, but it's gotten bad. I can't see anything but a blury light out of that eye. I was scheduled for surgery last April, but Covid changed all that. It's going to be absolutely amazing to be able to see out of that eye again, and have my depth perception back.

  9. Happy Pride Month to all my LGBTQ+ friends and allies! Love, acceptance, and a desire to live together as a community will conquer hate, fear, and ignorance. May we eventually come together in peace.

  11. That's really great to hear. Congrats. Also ignore anyone's comments about stereo vision being out and Apple's spatial vision being in.

  16. #ducttape Knucks, the risk of visiting the Dr (even the eye one) with even the most basic of precautions is extremely minimal. If you're two weeks post the first jab you've got ~80% immunity and the Dr's office is probably fully vax'd.

  17. AMS (audio midi studio) switches sample rates up and down to match the audio. It doesn't have the ability to upsample or anything that complicated. It's just a Utility for setting preferences for audio devices. Set your devices format to the max it can handle and AMS will switch the output to the appropriate settings. I believe Core Audio can up/downsample file outputs.

  18. After almost three and a half months, the KGST is finally in operation, and is sounding great. Thanks to all who have responded to my questions and given guidance. I am really surprised at how good the 40 year old headphone sounds with this amp. Special thanks also to Bigir and Dr. Gilmore for such wonder contributions to the community.

  19. I might just buy that NOS pair. The guy has a "make offer" option. In other news, this week is shaping up to be a gold star one: I now have two glasses halves balanced precariously on my face. I'm sure I look like an idiot, but fortunately no one else is around. I put them on last night, felt a weird cracking sensation, then both halves slid off my face. I'm overdue for a new glasses 'scrip, but my plan (of the "Mice and Men" variety) was to get my second vaccination jab (in two weeks) then wait two more weeks for full immunity then visit the eye doctor. That is no longer an option. :headdesk: I am clumsy and blind. It's hell to get old.

  20. OOF. Started today by putting my foot through the arc of my prized Senn HD-590s and breaking it. I've had these things for over 15 years at this point and they're one of my favorite cans. While their presentation is deeply flawed, their nutball 3D imaging is one of my favorites for ambient. I've used them to prepare for my radio show for over a decade now. Of course it's my stupid fault for leaving them at the foot of my bed and not putting them on the shelf, but dead is dead. I do have a physically identical pair of HD-570s (which sound awful) and I did investigate taking both pairs apart to find donor parts but looking at the wiring that seems like a nearly impossible job.
