  1. Still have the catch plate on the jamb to motise, and mortise the pulls on each side of the locket, but the worst is done. Thankfully only one more of these to do.

  3. Nice job Michael. I didn't do any of these changes as I know of to the Carbon I am building for another member. It will be off to another member to do the casework and finish it up. I hadn't posted pics of the whole thing as it exists, so here is one:

  4. My last thread here was about the Zus which I ended up buying used, the Soul Supreme, for a nice deal and I'm ready to move up the game.. Enter the Devore. I have been on a killing spree listening to speakers to find my next purchase and so far the only ones I liked were the Devore O/96 and Fleetwood Deville. So.. I'm curious if any of you guys heard the O/96 and O/baby ? The O/baby really is way cheaper than the O/96 that I loved but the store here doesn't carry them.. given that the O/baby has same new tweeter as their more expensive Reference and same woofer as the O/96 but smaller cabinet, maybe they could represent even a step up in sound or similar one. Also if you guys think I should try some other speaker brand shoot me.

  8. I've been loving some reaction videos, mostly to Heilung, recently. One favorite is a woman who goes by "The Charismatic Voice" and she is quite the Heilung fan-girl; she is amazing at picking music apart. Another was a woman, whose outburst of "Holy Shitballs" may be my single most favorite reaction expression....

  9. Well, the Slim D’Hermes will survive a shower. Forgot I was wearing it (very easy to do with this watch). No harm seems to have come to the strap, though the booklet is emphatic that it not get wet. The watch itself is fine; 3 ATM can handle a shower. Would it be sacrilege to find a really nice Milanese for this? I might even go swimming with it, then. I haven’t worn the Santos Dumont much. Not from a lack of desire to (I love it, and I’m reasonably certain I didn’t make a mistake by not getting a Bulgari octofinissimo in steel instead; I’ll maybe just get one of those in 2024: anyway, it wears like a dream), I just still haven’t put the first scratch on it yet, and I’m scared. What that tells me is I need more gold watches so that I can get used to scratching gold watches.

  11. All the mortises are cut so beginning the tenon process tonight. Also got the back, ugly half, of the bench top glued up except for the Birds Eye maple that will be the visible side the bench top.

  14. So I did indeed install 150K and 200K chain for the bias resistors of the C2M1000170D when I first built my Carbon. Today I replaced the 200K with a 150K, I had also dialed the bias back to 18mA and disengaged the servo. Then took a few measurements after letting the amp warmed up. Now the PZTA42 Vce is around 13.7V, voltage drop of the 20K R is 25.4V and the Vgs of the C2M1000170D is around 3.3V. And I did not blow up the amp.

  15. The long tail resistor (offset pot plus the one in series) should drop about 8.xV so Vce(PZTA42)+V(offset res)+Vgs(SiC)=Vg(SiC)-V(B-) //10+8.6+3.2=21.8 For PZTA42, Vce=10V and Ic=20mA is still not out of the woods. Just look at the DC current gain curves in the datasheet below. The non-linear region (due to Early Effect?) is not apparent in the SPICE model from the manufacturer. That's probably why it didn't catch the amp designer's attention. On the other hand, I was probably over worried about exceeding the C2M1000170D's max Vgs rating.

  16. Today I decided to make this mod to my Carbon I built in 2015 and parallel a resistor to one of the 175K to raise the Vce of the PZTA42. My Carbon is running on +/-406VDC rails and 20mA bias. To my surprise, instead of the 175K + 175K bias resistor chain, I had already replaced them with 150K + 100K at some point. As such, I measured Vce = 10V for PZTA42 and 21.8V drop across the 20K resistor. According to the graph above, this should put the PZTA42 in its linear operating region. Some wise man must have suggested this mod to me (I suspect SorenB) very early on. However, I measured Vgs of the C2M1000170D to be only 3.2V. Based on how I understand simmconn's posts, I was expecting 20V or higher. What gives?

  17. You are in a strange timezone my friend. And thanks all for the well wishes. It was a nice low-key evening with the family after a long week at work. No big presents, but that's the complication of getting old and having hobbies that do not lend themselves to others shopping for you.

  19. I'll be so happy when all lock manufacturers stop making the old style mortise locksets. These are such a PITA! We have better technology today, but these are becoming trendy. There's a specific tool that clasps onto the edge of a door and mortises these locks, but it's about $1,300. I just don't do them often enough to justify the outlay. So for now it's forstner bits, auger bits and chisels.

  20. It's a bit amazing how people like this are like leaches on the industry. I did a little bit of digging and yeah... found this: https://www.startengine.com/offering/danclark So sites like these are iffy to say the least and a good way to be utterly fucked as the investor and why would any legitimate company go down this route. There is Bluto himself singing his praises...
