  2. The amount of dog hair that must be in that condo is making my nose itch. Our second foraging expedition, which was meant to be a dog walk, was a bonanza. Including the One Spear to Rule Them All!
  3. The boys have played four matches in just two days. The national championship is two weeks away, and they're starting to feel the pressure. PD: I've finally been able to try out the 70-200 f2.8L lens.
  4. I think I was being reminded of something I had previously been told. Repeatedly.
  5. Yeah, I'm a 40-50mm shooter generally. Rarely go tighter, except some portraits (75, 105mm). Have been attempting to go wider (24-35mm) more over the last six or so months. Again these are nothing special, but I'm trying to "see wide".

  7. Super nice colors. I am either using an 85mm or a 135mm almost always. Looking at some of the images, my mind immediately went to how far I'd need to walk to get the same perspective, if at all. Compression is nice but sometimes nice to be close and capture a wider fov.
  8. Also enjoyed Legends 👍🏻 I haven't looked to see if it is already in this thread, but we really enjoyed Kleo on Netflix. Funny and engaging and a fascinating place and time in Berlin before and after the Wall
  9. Up in Maine, found out my next door neighbor went to the ER for a bad nosebleed. Visited her there, ended up keeping her company for almost 3 hours. Brought her home, then dog-watched these wonderful pups (2 Samoyeds and a 5-month old Golden - I THINK it's a blend with something else, l but not sure). At one point, she had 4 full-grown Samoyeds in her ~1100 sq ft condo!! She saw an ENT last night in Portland Maine and he helped a lot more than the local ER.....will find out today of the final prognosis & plan.
  10. I have Orbi and Asus ZenWifi setups in different places, now I need one for the Michigan compound. Old Apple Airports have gotten us this far. From reviews and best lists, the top contenders seem to be Eero and TP-Link Deco. For what it's worth, here's the main challenge: There are three separate buildings in the compound, the main house with the cable internet connection is down slope from the three story shop/garage/loft set into the slopes and lastly another cottage across from a garage. The in-laws have hard-wired ethernet cables running to two both ends of the main house and the top floor loft in the middle building. The biggest challenge is getting a decent signal to the third building from the second story loft. We do not have major demands or multiple smart devices -- people just want to be able to stream video in all three locations. Either I just leave the main house the way it is and try a modern mesh system between the loft and the cottage or I try to have a single mesh system with at least one unit in each building and hope they bridge. I'm not sure if it makes sense to connect mesh units by ethernet where possible or if they only are meant to bridge between themselves wirelessly. Any thoughts are appreciated on the approach and favorite brands/models.
  11. My only concern would be that unifi had a big security breach a few years ago, but their gear is definitely pro quality.
  12. Unifi is great, but often it's hard to get their equipment because of high demand. They've been steadily improving on the software management side, too.
  13. Look into unifi wifi https://ui.com/wifi It's meant for covering a large area with easy integration of multiple access points. You could put one access point in the main house and another in the loft over the garage and you should have excellent coverage everywhere. You would need to install the controller on your computer to set everything up, but once it's running you don't really need to do anything else. It would also give you the ability to easily monitor it all while you're away. You could continue to use the current router, or you could use a unifi router (I have an extra in a box that I never opened of you want it).

Excellent article on the Michael Jackson estate’s efforts to monetize his complicated legacy. Jackson’s estate, Reed says, has “very good lawyers, they’ve got infinite money and they have a vast, valuable asset that they need to protect.” They are “monetizing it very capably,” he says. “They’re on a roll.” https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/14/magazine/michael-jackson-biopic-estate.html?unlocked_article_code=1.bFA.tqzz.Mht9E4SWOcGO&smid=url-share

  18. Gay rights and longtime Democratic Congressman Barney Frank dies at 86. I have mixed feelings about this one. Barney was a trailblazer in a much earlier era. He also had (and I steal this quote) a sense of humor he wielded like a wrecking ball. I have never seen anyone make Republicans so buttmad on the floor as he did. He's also one of the few politicians who ever directly took on Wall St. in my lifetimes. With that said, he spent his retirement years undoing more or less all the good that he did in office. He became a lobbyist for the very financial institutions he sought to regulate previously, he went after trans people directly and in his final act as a public figure, attacked Graham Platner. Way to shit on your own legacy, bud.
  19. The Last Ride of the Skanky Van... to the salvage yard. RIP RIP trusty steed.
  20. RIP to my aunt, Gladys "Goldie" Schultz, 87. She was an amazing woman, very calm and logical, yet with a deep compassion and a wonderfully dry sense of humor (I was recently told she was a tiny bit on the spectrum, makes sense now). She was an early woman in tech, mother of 3 wonderful kids, and so much more. She will be missed....and my dad is now the last living person from that generation.... She now joins her husband, my Uncle Ron.
