  1. I will some day tell my children about the convoy ambush at the great wall of cars. There were three vehicles in the convoy: a lead car, the target, and a trail car. The lead car and trail car had mini-guns and were loaded with mercenaries. The convoy had a helicopter gunship as escort. With lieutenant Grahame, we devised a battle plan. We would create a roadblock to slow the convoy, mine the road to take out the lead car, use grenade launchers on the helicopter and trail car, then finally secure the package. What to use as a roadblock? Civilian cars, of course! And thus was constructed the great wall of cars! With the road mined, we retreated to our over-watch position and executed the ambush. Lead car down to mines, helo down to gernades, trail car executed with gernades and assault rifle fire. Brilliant! Admiring our handiwork: Finally, note to self, fasten seat-belt any time Grahame flys a helicopter because stuff like this happens:

  6. Though The Lost fleet has it's moments, similar to the later Honor Harrington books it's not really that well written, and can get tiresome and repetetive really fast. I somehow managed to read 6 volumes since my brother kept buying them, but i think the only book in the series i truly enjoyed was the second one. On a more positive note, i just finished the three books in Liu Cixin's "remembrance of earth's past" books. Truly excellent stuff, and both "the three body problem" and "death's end" are now firmly placed in my top 10 books ever shelf

  7. The opening post lists it in the BOM. It also lists it in the Mouser project cart.

  8. Now you're making me want to read it again. I collected the hardbacks of it at thrift stores ages ago. Some pretty imaginative worldbuilding in there. But my friend just lent me all of The Lost Fleet by Jack Campbell so I'll be chewing through that for a bit.

  9. I'm re-reading the Death Gate Cycle by Weiss and Hickman. I loved it in high school. It stands up pretty well!

  11. My '77 Long Murex has returned from Pilot USA! I couldn't be happier. They not only repaired the small issue with the cap, a very careful restoration was done to the pen, with a conservative polish on worn areas. It doesn't look new, and shouldn't, being a 40 year old used pen, but it looks fantastic, and writes amazingly well. I hadn't noticed that the nib was slightly bent, previously, but it writes like a dream, now. I couldn't ask for a better writing and feeling Japanese fine nib.

  12. It is frigging awesome. You can literally grab a robot, rip its arm off and beat it to death (recall it) with the arm. Note if you don't want to rip your cable out of your goggles when diving to dodge bullets it's a good idea to have some cable management: adjustable dog leash for the win: I almost wrecked my goggles....
