  1. Had a nice Hanukkah celebration at my father's tonight; good amount of family was there. My son is his father's son for sure; he got me a T-Shirt as an "extended" part of my birthday gift. He said technically it's true as he would be called Progressive....smart-ass! 😄 But he's MY smart-ass and I love him!

  2. Truffle oil is also an excellent seasoning which can easily be homemade. Virgin olive oil and a little bit of truffle, that's all you need. Use it for pasta, salads, meat...

  4. I bought truffle salt on your personal recommendation to me. Thanks a hell of a lot, as now I can't do without it! This is what I found. I have no comparisons, but really like it.

  5. After watching this last night, I wanted to listen to some more ELO: I didn't know this one that well. I don't think I ever owned it. Not 50yo yet - but close. Electric Light Orchestra II Electric Light Orchestra 1973 https://album.link/i/1054523017 Example: Longer songs than most, but they also have the classic Jeff signature. From Arguably an honorary Beatle.

  7. The bomb cyclone knocked out power in Northfield (and a good chunk of the rest of Vermont). But we got our generator working on propane so we have working heat, refrigerator, stove and outlets in one room. Trying to conserve propane to just use the essentials since this is the first time we used this generator in Vermont and it is unclear how long this may last. Update: The power came back on around 6:15. The generator worked great and we were able to make a nice dinner and finish eating before power was restored. We feel pretty good about the first test.

  9. Truff now make a variety of Truffle-based products outside of their hot sauce range, I imagine they'd be alright (I've only ever had their hot sauces and pasta sauces): https://www.truff.com/products/truff-black-truffle-oil?variant=39291221639302 https://www.truff.com/products/white-truffle-oil?variant=39932774842502 https://www.truff.com/products/truffle-salt?variant=40001193803910

  11. A couple albums with the same title and many of the same family members - American Folk Songs for Christmas by Mike, Peggy & Penny Seeger and their families and American Folk Songs for Christmas by The Seeger Sisters. "Ruth Crawford Seeger (1901-1953), distinguished musician, noted music educator and authority on folk music has assembled a collection of songs from the old-time Christmas, before Santa Claus came to America and neatly trimmed fir trees bloomed with tinsel." Also when Christmas was January 6th. Ex. Bonus track for the Dukes of Hazzard fans. Your wish has come true - Bo and Luke singing Baby, it's Cold Outside to each other.

  16. We just booked tickets to arrive on Thursday Feb 23 and we are staying after the weekend to visit our daughter and other friends. Friday afternoon at Other Half and Finback in Gowanus Brooklyn, along to sandwiches from Court Street Grocers nearby is my proposal for kicking things off...

  17. What does "Melt Away" taste of, anyway? I have a feeling they are probably banned in the EU for a variety of reasons.

  20. Finally got to break out the smoker for the first time since I bought it a couple months ago. @cetoole found pork shoulder for 99 cents/lb, so I got an 8-and-change pounder and broke it in. I had a cayenne and garlic infused garlic honey that I've liked before spread over it and rubbed in, along with some brown sugar. Let it rest overnight uncovered in the fridge, ground some salt over it today while the smoker was going through its initial burn in/up process. Have a learning curve (smaller-than-13-hour-hopper, so I ran out once), but... it doesn't suck.

  21. Same Jim, power kicked out here around 8pm last night when a second cell went thru and hit us with some crazy gusts for a bit. Lots of trees down which made going to pick up the kids quite the adventure. Still no power here which makes this one of the longest outages we've had since we bought the house (11+hrs). Everything is ok for now, both fridges powered, house mostly heated, etc. But the temps dropped like a rock over night (from 50 to 10F) so things are going to be wickedly frozen out in the world. Here's to hoping the power comes back on soon. I'd prefer not to attempt to cook Christmas breakfast on a single burner.
