  1. Here’s a quad of Western Electric 300B in the Grand Cayman. Just something i am trying while waiting on the first batch of finished enclosures to arrive (the power transformers just got here by boat) how does it compare with 20B? So far, here are some bullet points - Surprisingly low noise. This is with dc heaters. The blue hawaii, or Grand Cayman with 20B or 300B all have about the same noise floor, using decent tubes. - The gain is a bit low. About 375x with WE 300B, 425x with EHX, and the EML 20B version is about 700x. [note: i havent tried changing any feedback setting yet] for comparison most Stax amps are between 500x and 1000x gain the lower gain could work out great if adding a preamp in front of the amp, but for a quick increase to 1000x gain simply replace the input tube 6SN7/12SN7 with a higher gain 6SL7/12SL7 As one would expect, distortion is higher. About .1 to .2% under load, or about 10x as high as the 20B which one sounds better is likely going to be very subjective and will have to wait until i get a 2nd one put together for proper A/B comparisons

  3. Well that was the Canadian side. I will say nothing more. It was a pretty whirlwind trip. We drove to Niagara Falls and stayed overnight on the Ontario side. The las photograph in the previous post was from our room on the 30th floor of the Marriott Fallsview Hotel. Tuesday we drove back over to the US side and went on a three-hour tour of the various state parks associated with the falls. Stayed overnight in Utica, NY which is approximately half way. Had an excellent lasagna pizza for dinner. We drove back today and picked up our new rescue dog, Junie and now we are chilling at home until we pick up BearCub from the Doggie Spa at 4:00 pm.

  8. Tonight No bananas were harmed in the making of this dish (as technically, they tend to be a garnish/side instead of an ingredient, with curries) as this was a turkey chili.

  9. (Sunday) Joanne's Australian nephew, who is currently based in New York, was flying into SFO to work with a client in San Jose as part of an ongoing project, and asked if it was possible we could meet up. So we decided to make a day/ afternoon of it and see what was worth seeing on the peninsula before meeting him. Who knew there was a 98 room beaux arts mansion/chateau in Hillsborough? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carolands https://carolands.org/ https://www.sfgate.com/sfhistory/article/california-gilded-age-mansion-carolands-17441886.php Or that there is a water temple just off I-280 https://sfpuc.org/learning/come-visit/pulgas-water-temple https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulgas_Water_Temple https://www.sfgate.com/local/article/Pulgas-Water-Temple-Hetch-Hetchy-water-Crystal-14992239.php Then a bit of culture, art and history in Stanford University. Makes you think, doesn't it? More sights / (steampunk?) architecture at Stanford. It's amazing what being one of the big four robber barons will get you! And then on to meet up with Joanne's nephew @ http://buckswoodside.com/ They have a virtual tour of all their paraphanalia! https://matterport.com/discover/space/k6RtWhrenma Turns out Joanne's nephew's client is small $2T company some of you may have heard of. Their offices look nice. The project is due to last a couple of years, so we may be seeing more of Joanne's nephew in the future!

  10. Snappiness always has good content. I was interested in the Pixii, but just decided the Q was a better fit for me, since my existing lens collection is all F-mount, and I didn’t particularly want to buy Leica lenses, given prices and overlap (since I bought a Nikon DSLR again, as well), and 28mm is my favorite focal length. Disappointing that it was misaligned. I also find it a little gross that they don’t just sell the base model with the larger storage installed, if they are going to insist on having built in storage. I mean, an ultra fast 1tb SD card is like $70.

  12. To say that I'm happy with the finished product is an understatement. What I really want to do is keep these for myself and tell Al's Sisters in law that they were just too messed up Certainly the nicest Milo & Otis product to date IMO. We're going to sneak these into their house and wait for them to discover tonight.

  13. Assembled, glued and clamped. The fit is fantastic. No weight needed in the base boxes. Not at all top heavy, even with drawers fully extended. The glue needs to dry overnight, then tomorrow is final sand with 320 Grit and start applying the Rubio Monocoat, wax oil finish.

  14. The latest Milo & Otis joint is coming along nicely. The two end tables basically consist of 3 boxes each. The top horizontal box, which encompasses the drawer, the middle vertical box and the bottom horizontal box. Aside from those three boxes are the two drawers (One per nightstand). And the bases which are maybe an inch and a half tall, and provide a shadow line under the bottom box. We have milled all the rabbits, put together the three separate boxes, flush trimmed all joints and sanded all panels. Very happy with how flat and well fitted everything is to this point. Left to do is joining the three boxes together, building the drawers and finishing the stands. The narrow, vertical middle boxes were rabbited on each end, to allow us to install plywood panels that will secure the top and bottom boxes by gluing and screwing them together. We used a large rabbiting bit on the router table. It was a little bit awkward, but worked a charm. As you can see in the pics, the Black dyed plywood panels will end up being the bottom panels that the base attaches to. These will be screwed only, to allow us to add weight in the form of sand, to make the stands bottom heavy, and thus less likely to topple over once the drawers are fully extended out. We kind of like the Black plywood, and plan on dying the plywood drawers Black as well. Oh, and Milo's finger is healing nicely.

  15. Did some nearly wood work this weekend. Had to build a closet organizer out of melamine. Found that the builders of my house did not have a square. As I needed to shave .5 inches from front to back to get it to slide onto the shelf between the ceiling and closet rod. Also working on getting good anneal on stainless steel so I made some knives and bar keys, more customyish.
