  1. Man, have I missed out on all the fun here? I have no excuse, my home office serves double-duty as my blast shelter, so even when my windows shake from Iron Dome detonations I can certainly post. I can't share all the tea here on an open forum, but I'll make a point to pop by and represent the USG perspective on what is going on. This is obviously a subject that arouses very strong feelings in many (myself included), but as a paid propagandist working in exactly this area I think I'm uniquely qualified to stick my neck out.

  2. Two items: First, Bridgeport has landed and I've got about 100 listening hours into it. It's big and beautiful and I love it. I'll share pictures when it's moved out of my bedroom and into my office. Second, there is a Torpedo III for sale elsewhere: https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/650094412-ecp-torpedo-iii-amplifier/?utm_campaign=saved-searches-alerts&utm_source=notification&utm_medium=email

  5. Post-Medieval illumination - the making of the 2022 Obsidian game, Pentiment, a 2D adventure game - like The Name of the Rose if it was a video game:

  7. It's amazing what they were able to achieve with a 12-person team. The concept sounds extremely niche, but it's great and it's exactly what I wanted in a video game without knowing it. I'm still enjoying Josh Sawyer's other masterpiece, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, as well.

  8. a.k.a. The adventures of Boyd from Justified turned up to 11 and as much Lizzy Kaplan and Finn from Star Wars as we could afford. Honestly I'm having a good time. The show wears its influences on its sleeve (Silo, Walking Dead, Hello Tomorrow!) but the world feels visceral and fun. It's absolutely good enough to prove the assertion that video game settings can also be good TV settings and I like that.

  9. I very much like the idea of the GTS's. Hoping I get a shot at a 911 GTS one day, but I doubt it...LOL. The only thing I'm not a big fan of, aside from the always scary in Houston low stance (front axel lift FTW) is that most the GTS's I see have the center lock wheels. I don't find them practical at all. 443ft lb target... Even with the right kit, that's a lot of cranking down on something at the track should you need to swap tires/wheels. I'd order w/o those, personally. HS

  10. Yeah, I too would have picked the fixed roof over the convertible, but a convertible popped up that had the options I want so here we are! A reviewer I like says everyone should own a convertible at least once in their lives. I'm also in California where keeping the top down most of the year is a realistic option. GTS has the same engine as the GT4, just revs to 7800 instead of 8000. Some suspension and aero changes as well but I'm going to be daily driving this thing. Also, markup on GT4s is insane. I did ride alongs in the Cayman S and GT3 RS yesterday. Maybe some day if/when I make Partner we can think about the big RS!

  11. The GT4 is the best I’ve been in but I’m not a serious road course guy that’s been at it a long while. I’m still learning. A whole lot easier for me to win going straight…lol. HS

  15. I always find something interesting...usually too many...at the Texas Mile. This one really caught my eye. It's a real deal (edit: superbird...it's a plymouth) and they had done a lot of fabrications work to get it to this point. Certainly not the fastest, but listening to the owner and builders love for it was really cool. And, big arse waaaaang, as my buddy would say. Not my thing but pretty nifty... HS

  16. I've mentioned that much of MV live takes place on Facebook groups (much to my chagrin.) There's 3 major ones: Islanders Talk (invite only, must be an MV resident, no politics allowed), Islanders Unfiltered (same, allows politics, reads like the staging area of the next January 6), and MV Stuff 4 Sale (what it sounds like.) In that last group I see all sorts of deals, and have listed a few things myself. I saw this yesterday:

  17. Here’s a quad of Western Electric 300B in the Grand Cayman. Just something i am trying while waiting on the first batch of finished enclosures to arrive (the power transformers just got here by boat) how does it compare with 20B? So far, here are some bullet points - Surprisingly low noise. This is with dc heaters. The blue hawaii, or Grand Cayman with 20B or 300B all have about the same noise floor, using decent tubes. - The gain is a bit low. About 375x with WE 300B, 425x with EHX, and the EML 20B version is about 700x. [note: i havent tried changing any feedback setting yet] for comparison most Stax amps are between 500x and 1000x gain the lower gain could work out great if adding a preamp in front of the amp, but for a quick increase to 1000x gain simply replace the input tube 6SN7/12SN7 with a higher gain 6SL7/12SL7 As one would expect, distortion is higher. About .1 to .2% under load, or about 10x as high as the 20B which one sounds better is likely going to be very subjective and will have to wait until i get a 2nd one put together for proper A/B comparisons

  18. Yup - it is indeed a UltraWide SCSI. But it was also not uncommon to use this pin out to control a printer. The other end of that plug didn't look like that. - I'm old.

  20. Also, meta post here. Imgur finally made good on their threat to delete old images, and not in the way they said they would. In the spring of this year they said they were deleting all old images not associated with an imgur account. I've had an account since the site launched in 2010. I had uploaded something like 44,000 photos in that time. At least 20K are magically gone. This is what the first post in this thread now looks like: 🪦
