  1. Dug the hole today. You know, the hole that you dig at the start of every winter before the ground freezes, just in case one of your 8 pets dies in the next 5 months and you need a shallow grave on short notice? Nobody else does that?
  2. It's really good. It doesn't taste like a cheap Canadian whisky. I'd say it's in the same style as Bulleit rye, and probably a bit better. I'll buy it again if the price doesn't skyrocket.
  3. Have a bottle on hold for me at a nearby store. Will provide a review in haiku form later tonight.
  4. Should I watch that instead of a zombie movie tonight?
  5. I was wondering that myself. The last cheap Canadian whisky he recommended was nothing special. This one though... that's an insanely high score. Same as he gave the Oogie if I'm not mistaken. If I can find it I'll file a report, sirs and ma'am.
  6. WAT. http://www.cbc.ca/m/touch/canada/manitoba/story/1.3328260 I'll have to try this out.
  7. Happy birthday Nums!
  8. Happy birthday Alex! Hope it's been a good one.
  9. Happy belated, Dinny!
  10. May your birthdays be filled with family, friends, and/or drunken bicycling! Enjoy the day!
  11. Pan-seared beef heart steak. It's pretty good. Mild flavour and interesting texture. I was expecting it to be tough but it's quite tender. I'll probably make the rest into a stew.
  12. Saluting Marilyn, one of our more annoying cows who did not survive this morning's visit from the mobile butcher. Currently googling beef heart recipes.
  13. Glad to hear of the upward trend Larry. Keep healing.
  14. JH13 goes between the iPhone and the aunes. Obviously.
  15. My parents are thinking of getting a Chevy Volt. According to them it will do 80 km on its electric motor, and then switch over to its gas motor if required for another 450 km. Sounds okay to me - my commute is 12 km each way. And today I played drums for the first time in a long time. I got blisters on me fingers.
  16. Totally agree with you on A Red Rose Chain. That series is amazing. The new Mira Grant Parasitology book comes out next month. I'm partway through Moon Called, by Patricia Briggs. Initial impressions are positive. I also recently read The Shadow Cabinet, by Maureen Johnson. It's the third one in her Shades of London series, which I really like. Supernatural detectives and boarding schools, etc. She's also a laugh a minute on Twitter.
  17. Happy birthday Marc!
  18. Whoa. As others have said, glad you're okay.
  19. Happy birthday Peter!
  20. Oak trees have deep taproots as an adaptation to drought. At least the species we have here does - YMMV I guess. I just voted in our federal election. I don't care who wins, as long as our current governing party loses (opinion polls have been looking favourable). All the opposition parties are promising democratic reform, which would be outstanding.
  21. Thanks folks! I'm in the middle of a busy few weeks, so probably won't have time for much celebrating. Maybe I'll light a bonfire tonight and see if anyone joins me.
  22. Happy birthday, fellow October 17thers!
  23. Happy birthday Vicki! Hope we get another visit in February when I'm in Fort Lauderdale with the family.
  24. Went to Thanksgiving dinner at a local back road community hall a few miles from my house. Ended up as president of said hall's board. It's really beat up and needs a lot of work, but I've got big plans to turn it around and get it fixed up, and market it so that it'll get used. It's a great sounding room to play music in.
  25. I'm interested, but my vacation time has been cut with the new job. Subscribing anyway. IcelandAir has free stopovers in Reykjavik when travelling from North America to Europe, which I feel is relevant here. EDIT: and yes, goddammit, if I ever achieve my dream of touring the Islay distilleries, I want you all there as well.
