  1. I think I totally missed Richie Havens when it happened....or more likely, can't remember shit. Dusty, that has more than a "touch" of melancholy, thanks for posting it. I wasn't familiar with them/him (Colin Vearncombe), very sad to read it was from an accident and he was in a coma. And only 53.... RIP all....
  2. Thanks gents. Nate: there's been a lot of executive turnover in the last couple years, so the CIO going is kind of the last item on the agenda. Brian thought he may be gone, but not at this time and not in this way. I and one other person are officially consultants/contractors, so we may be more tenuous on the keeping-them scale. But we're both pretty deeply involved with projects that are important to the company. Not worried overall one way or another about us. Just happened to like the CIO.....
  3. Weird day today. Bit of a story..... My boss Brian was waiting/looking for our CIO to catch up with him today, he was involved with some vendor negotiations on a high profile project. They just had some meetings yesterday. Day goes on, this afternoon Brian asks me for some info on some SW licensing. I had to gather some info up and filter out some accounts still listed in our system, but who aren't there anymore (the folks who maintain our Active Directory users don't do it well IMO). I am going through, getting names of inactivated users, and boom - our CIO's user account is disabled. I call him over, he IM's someone he knows who is offsite today, who is VERY surprised and doesn't know why it's disabled. Then we check with someone else onsite, and sure enough the CIO is gone as of today. Not being announced until tomorrow. Big upheaval for my boss' projects, and therefore some of mine. I think we'll go ahead with many or most, but the future is a bit weird as of now. Not worried about losing my job (remote chance, but I suppose possible); but this could change some direction in bigger ways. Tomorrow may be even weirder.
  4. Oh, man.......fuck......RIP Richie Havens.......
  5. RIP Abe. Fish was one of my favorite characters, though Barney Miller had several great ones....
  6. My family went to the MIT museum some months ago, his work was well-documented there, with so much that he spawned in his students. An amazing person. RIP......
  7. It just happened to be a "related" video to something I watched, and I watched a pretty cool duet with Pink and Linda Perry doing "What's Up" Then I proceeded to watch over a dozen covers of people worldwide doing that (lots of XXX Has Talent type shows), and then about 5 or 6 versions of people singing "Me And Bobby McGee" by Janis Joplin. FWIW, Pink does both those songs REAL well!
  8. Happy (belated) Birthday!
  9. My wife loves that almond milk....she'd like wine better, but too many calories....and not chocolate
  10. Already seeing some snow reports, just stay safe & warm everyone in the path!
  11. Yeah, that was some fucked up video I saw. While I bet they will be better prepared for the next I one, the pure volume will be overwhelming. Looks like northern MA will escape this one for the most part. But my son was still called in tonight and tomorrow to work 5 hour night shifts at the supermarket. Sucks because he has a test tomorrow; maybe they'll let him bow out or leave early tonight now that the storm doesn't look to impact as strongly.....
  12. Happy Birthday!
  13. Happy Birthday! Only 31....such a young'un.....!
  14. Heck, it was tough to get through some of the album, never mind that video! This stuff was so campy crap fun in the day, though!
  15. Came across this in my list, copied and brought to work. Remember the days....good times....good times.....
  16. Yeah....that would be GREAT.....
  17. I actually admire you Jacob, it's rare to have someone that cares so much about looking good and professional, even if not a C-level exec. Even our CIO here hardly wears a tie. That said....I'm pretty much a slob. Khaki's and collared shirts similar to Nate, but in jeans today because of snow and salt and what it can do to my pants. Saves me money as well....
  18. RIP Glenn Frey. This year is already starting to suck pretty badly. So many greats gone already.....
  19. I missed that, sorry to hear about the speakers, too....
  20. Sorry for your loss, Marshall, sympathies to you and the entire family.
  21. It's amazing what differences some things make. There's a guy in Switzerland who recommends Windows Server 2012 R2 and makes some optimization SW for that (and other OS versions, FWIW) as well. You can run it in "core" mode and have many things disabled. People have similar reactions to JP#'s....
  22. RIP Grizzly Adams.....always enjoyed that show...... I looked him up on IMDB, never realized how much he did (almost all I hadn't heard of though).
  23. With Diet Coke sauce to top it off! Happy Birthday!
  24. Hope you enjoy, Tom! I've been toying with the idea to get their Ion amp when it comes out, but then I'd lose out on some analog inputs I'm using with my current integrated (I need at least 2, preferably 3; and the Exogal DAC has one analog input it digitizes). JP, I haven't had experience with any of the higher end media servers, but I have to say that - with the tweaks like the Regen and Intona - my PC/laptop USB out sounds pretty damn good.... I HAVE tried lesser servers, Pioneer N-30 and Auralic Aries. Both are good or great, but still ended up using the computer.
  25. I know what you mean Jon....I want things pretty simple too. This is why I like when one small thing makes a good difference. Tom, I love the Exogal. I got two, and sold my Auralic Vega. Loved that too, but it's a different sound than the Exogal. More incisive while still being pretty musical. But for my taste, the Exogal is more musical....I just got into the music more....
