The stock Yamaha YH-100 sounds like it's under water to me. Once I put those drivers into a properly damped Donut housing the transformation was nothing short of amazing to my ears. Not only was there no veiled, layed back quality, but I'd actually characterize them as a bit forward sounding. Also crystal clear and extremely smooth sounding, so I have to think that better damping would change the character of your pair Monkey.

Could there be a Skylab reference in there? I liked your review very much myself Monkey. The DAC that Naaman is building me (Buffalo32) also uses the Sabre chip, although it's the ES9018. I also like a kind of forward, punchy midbase, so it'll be interesting to see how the Buffalo32 sounds. Of coarse my K1000 is already tilted toward that type of presentation, and my β22 is pretty neutral, so we'll have to wait and see. I have no idea what my Pass F5 clone's signature is yet, so that may add to the mix. A very good read though my friend. And it makes me look forward to auditioning my new DAC all the more.

I was being a clown, by patting myself on the back. I built that jack with help from a really cool jig Marc designed. It is a fantastic jack though, and it really has a quality feel when inserting the Stax plug. If you knew Marc (luvdunhill) like many of us do, you'd expect nothing less. I hope it's safe to out your plug Marc, considering I already did so quite a while back.
