  1. Bought the vinyl. Sort of expensive, but comes with a 24/96 download which is nice. Album sounds a lot like Loveless which ain't a bad thing This is also awesome: "This vinyl album has been recorded as an analogue album. It was recorded on 2 inch 24 track analogue tape and mixed onto half inch analogue tape and mastered with no digital processing involved. The vinyl is a true analogue cut, i.e. it hasn't been put through a digital process during the cutting process unlike over 90% of all vinyl available today."
  2. The ASC stuff doesn't look too bad, I don't mind the look of the tubes behind the speakers.

The Huarya is $1.3M isn't it? I can't say I am surprised that they are surviving if they're selling cars at those prices. All those emissions, regulations, and crap are far less stringent in the middle east, where I imagine a lot of these cars go. The prince of Dubai has a Toyota Supra that runs on jet fuel, try doing that in the US, the EPA will probably have you in handcuffs! As the Koensigg founder said, give us enough money and we'll even build you a helicopter
  4. If you want to go nuts reading about it Ethan Winer's site has a pant load of information http://www.ethanwiner.com/acoustics.html#part1 And his commercial site has some more good info as well as videos: http://www.realtraps.com/ I personally found the biggest difference to come from putting bass traps in the corners and dampening side wall reflections. This is for my two channel system.
  5. That UMC-200 looks like a whole lot of value for the dollar.. I have an AV7005 and it's great, so I imagine the SR7005 is pretty nice.
  6. IMO the FX-888 (I bought mine from Frys) isn't as good as the genuine 936 (my clone 936 works fine now that the heating element fits. The Pace beats them all). It takes longer to heat up and even with a little fan blowing nearing the tip would cool down too quickly.

    It's baaaack
  8. Happy belated birthday Adrian, hope it was a good one!
  9. Seriously those headphones spoiled me for good... if only they weren't so damn fragile. I would love to hear their sound recreated with a DIY model.
  10. I am partial to the really early model... I think they called it SR-Omega
  11. Before the pad change? Well one of them had pads so far shot that it wouldn't create a seal on the bottom part, those ones sounded awful. The grill is just a cloth. You can replace it with any material, removing them completely will make any MK1 sound more open. Just curious have you compared any side by side with the same amp and source? Because those changes will change the way they sound as well. If Shelly reads this maybe she can tell us what the SN on her brown mk1 is... it was a 7xxxx one (maybe it was one made close to the SZ1? It was in very good condition). That is the one I compared my former SZ1 to and they sounded identical. I've also heard the SZ3 and can readily point out the differences so I don't think it's my hearing
  12. I've compared an SZ1 and 7xxxx side by side. They sound the same if both have new pads and the same speaker grill material. I sold my 7xxxx before selling the SZ1. I've had three MK1s at one point. Fit and pad age make a huge difference to the sound.
  13. Yeah I saw the Amazon price and number of good reviews which is what got me interested in it. I do not see as many posts about Skil (unlike Delta, Jet, Steel City) on hobbyist boards. I have at least 3 amps I'd like to do right now. And probably more in the future. They are tube amps with only top plates that need to be drilled, and no engraving, so I might look into the CamExpert option. Having a drill press and knowing I can have work done at any time is a nice thought though. It's not really worth struggling with my hand held... takes most of the fun out of DIY
  14. Anyone have any thoughts on Skil tools? I'm looking to get a budget drill press, and I was considering a 3220. Used for casework, aluminum panels would probably not be any more than 2-3 mm thick. Or any other suggestions in the ~ $150 price range welcome.
  15. Watched the Rangers/Pens yesterday. It is good to have hockeh back
  16. I'm interested why you guys have decided to do a 300B electrostat amp after all. From reading old posts on Headfi I got the impression that it would be a poor idea.
  17. I think Tyll rated the Bose noise cancelling headphones as the best of the lot that he tested. If I were a frequent flier I would probably get them since IEMs feel awful when your ears are de-pressurizing.

  19. Mikey you are a Linn-atic right? That U-Turn might just dethrone it
  20. I just like it since they poke fun at aging hipsters...
  21. Have some Bolivian Agrocam from OBR on the way. Love me some high high altitude beans.
