  1. Thats probably what my $2k is going to pay for. A Project Cars rig for the Obama girls.
  2. Got W-2s at work today. An early birthday present from President Obama. Punched it in to turbotax and it looks like I owe close to two grand. Thats less than I budgeted for, but it leaves an unwanted dent in my savings for a house down-payment.
  3. Goddammit, Colin. I don't see a racing wheel in that picture. What gives?
  4. I will try and take some better pics, and yeah, I also hate the look of the TRS jack on the front. I have that same crappy TRS jack on my Crack 2 and I am not a fan. The Pass stuff has also never been a particularly great value buy. It has that dealer premium built in. The used prices are pretty reasonable though. IMO the SuSy Dynalo is one heck of a performer so the Pass will have to be pretty great to best it.
  5. Yeah, its the SuSy. I have @gepardcv's build on extended loan.
  6. RIP Glenn Frey of the Eagles... man this has been a rough couple of weeks.
  7. Todd the Vinyl Junkie just announced a loaner program for this over at HF and I'm happy to be the first on the list. I'm very much looking forward to listening to the first Pass Labs product dedicated to headphones. I've got the Dynalo mk2 and Crack 2 in house to compare with and I'll be bringing the amp with me to the January 30 HF meet in San Jose if anyone else in the Bay Area cares for a listen. Some pics from Tyll:
  8. That Arizona-Green Bay game was the first NFL game I watched this season. Amazing! One hell of an ending!
  9. Happy Birthday to the terror of the virtual streets.
  10. I agree that they are a very nice headphone. If there were priced at the $1,699 price point of the HD800S I'd have to give them more serious consideration. I suspect a decent number of people who own them got them for less than MSRP. The current $3k MSRP is just way too high an ask when you can get 009s for nearly the same price.
  11. RIP. Hans Gruber was a heck of a movie villain. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. I write off people who like the WES or LL better than the BH or HV off on principal. No other information needed.
  13. The way Chang/Chang 2.0 has turned out makes me sad as there is room for another good site in this hobby. IMO HF has become all but useless outside of the DIY, For Sale, and Meet forums as well as Jude's ability to break news as the public face of the hobby. I have zero desire to go over there to discuss equipment. All you need to do is take one look at the most active posters over there to realize what a farce the discussions have become. The barrier to entry over there is non-existent. Chang/Chang 2.0 had an opportunity to be a nice forum for gear discussion but there is a groupthink going on over there that I just can't get behind. It is a shame too, as I've met some great people through mini-meets.
  14. Woof. Don't even know where to begin to start with the hostility for Stax and KG's amps over at Chang 2.0. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. Maybe you'll be able to start selling builds of dynamic amps as well in the new space?
  16. Good luck with the move and the sale, Birgir. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. IIRC when Tyll did his "Big Sound Project" most of the participants struggled mightily identifying amps during blind testing with the HE-1000. It is possible they are more amp-agnostic than some might think.
  18. RIP Bowie. A true original. I know what I'll be listening to this week. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. To be fair, the HE-1000 and HE-X both do sound quite good. I fully agree with you that neither is worth the current ask.
  20. I read this fantastic book over the break. I recommend it without qualification to anyone interested in history or science. The Manhattan Project and the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were probably one of the five most important events of the 20th century and this book feels like the definitive tome. It treats the subject with the respect and humility it deserves. It's also a great layman's guide to nuclear science (no equations) and the development of the atomic theory. Once the race to the bomb is on you'd be surprised how much of a page turner a book like this can be. 5/5

  24. They've cleaned up very well since the earthquakes, but everyone still has very vivid memories.
