The price still makes me sick to my stomach, but damn! As of today this is the best dynamic headphone I've heard (non-stat division). The Utopia is exceptionally balanced and really seems to have no weakness. Once these start making it out in to the wild I'll be interested to see what others think.

Quantum Break If you've liked Remedy's games in the past (Max Payne, Alan Wake) this is another great one. It took months for the PC version to finally be patched up to a decent state, but it was worth the wait. I am a sucker for time travel stories, and this game has some very interesting takes on that formula. Gameplay is fun, fast, and fluid. The live action TV show segments were just ok. They didn't really add to the experience but they weren't a big annoyance either. 4/5. Very fun game. Overlooked due to XBone exclusivity but great that its now in good shape on PC. Rise of the Tomb Raider Great game! If you liked the first reboot, then this one takes that game and cranks everything up a notch or two. The game looks and runs great, is fun to play and has a serviceable story. The level design is the real star here. Every part of the game is wonderful to explore. The highlight of the game for me was the tombs themselves. They are beautiful and fun to figure out, even if they tend to be rather simple. I spent just under 20 hours on my play-though and enjoyed every minute. 4.5/5. Very highly recommended! A better story would have made this a classic.

^ Amen. ST was definitely one of the pleasant surprise shows of this year. Now we wait.

^ Nice find, DC. Might have to listen to this at work today.

^ Two of my all-time favorite people in the music biz! Great album.

A brilliant little headphone, I agree! It was the surprise of @rdreyer's little menagerie. Beautifully clear and transparent in the treble and mids. I thought it lacked in the bass, but prehaps that is due to it being earpad headphone and not getting any kind of a seal rather than being circumaural? I've said it before and I'll say it again, nothing sounds better than a good electrostatic setup. @rdreyer's is just wonderful to listen to. Thanks again for letting me come and listen!

None of that is mine. I just listened to it.

I finally had a chance to hear the carbon last night with this lineup of stat phones. Bravo, Kevin, Birgir and co. I thought it sounded fantastic. Also, really liked those SR-X mk 3s.

Brent is a level 30 grandmaster at that game!

Love-love-love these guys. Maybe my favorite hard rock band.

It is where I'm looking to buy a house in the next 12-18 months! Good eye!

I spent the day driving this sweet baby around. Jeff, you are one lucky ass mother-fucker. The 4S was a dream blasting around the mountain roads to Stinson beach. I can't even imagine the GT3. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Are you referring to something in particular?

Isn't that all stuff every headphone manufacturer's marketing department should be doing before the launch of a flagship product? It sounds like good business to me. Manufacturers whose marketing departments don't do this kind of PR rollout are probably doing their product a disservice, don't you think? I don't really see any ethical issues unless positive reviews were paid for. -- In any event, the high-end of the headphone world seems to be reasonably good at separating the wheat from the chaff once the initial buzz settles. The cream has generally risen to the top (Sennheiser, Schiit, Stax) while the mediocrity has Been sinking (Audeze, Ultrasone, Basically Every Custom Cable Maker). As usual, early adopters put themselves at risk of falling for the buzz, but this is and will always be the case.

Four episodes in to "Stranger Things." Its pretty decent.

In this case, Filipino.

Yes, I had my full rig at the meet. Purely sonically, I liked my 009/HV combo better than what I have now, but there is a lot more that goes in to it that just sound. After having to get a broken pair of 009s fixed by Yama's I'm done with electrostatics. EDIT: Just found a picture I took at the meet when I was listening to Elear.

I Bogart-ed Jude's pair at the SF meet for an extended listening session on my own rig and I agree with most of what Tyll had to say. It was noisy and I don't claim to have nearly as experienced a set of ears, but I could tell right away that they are an extremely technically competent headphone. I'm hoping to get a pair for an audition in the months to come. My only immediate issue was that the soundstage/imaging seemed lacking next to my HD800S, which is something Tyll noticed as well. As a former 009/KGSS-HV owner, I don't think the Utopia is going to convert anyone away from the Church of stats.

Couldn't agree more re: Mercer. Whatever he says, do the opposite.

Why isn't De La Soul's catalog available to stream? Think licensing problems with the samples they used. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/14/arts/music/de-la-soul-digital-albums.html

Fascinating PBS Doc on the rise of Christianity in the Roman Empire as told from the scholarly perspective. Really learned a lot watching this.
