  1. I had used the plain old GE Silicone II in clear before. Many of the caps in the Counterpoint pre I used to have were affixed using clear silicone (from the factory). As long as it is low odor it should be non-acidic. From a quick google of electronics-grade silicone, it looks like GC has one for a reasonable price (<$5 a tube).
  2. Happy Birthday Kevin!
  3. JAE makes some pretty decent ones as well (SRCN series), more affordable than the Amphenol mil-spec ones, but work well. I used these on the Sigma22 I built for Jim for his Audio Alchemy amp. I think they are rated for 300Vdc. The Counterpoint preamp I had used these on the umbilical. Running ~430Vdc through it http://www.mouser.co...ord=jae&FS=True Digikey carries these as well. I hadn't seen the Switchcraft EN3 series that Marc recommended. Those look nice.
  4. THat guy is full of it: SOME IMPORTANT HISTORY: High-end audio was nearly non-existent in the 1970s short of a few companies like McIntosh and even those marketed their gear around objective criteria. If anyone tried to sell a $2000 power cord in 1980 they would have been laughed out of business but now there are dozens of companies selling them. Really? 1970s (early) How about Marantz, KLH, Infinity, SAE, etc.? Many more later in the decade. He probably has a point in the 2nd sentence... MAGIC: Some compare the supposedly better sound heard from high-end gear to “magic”. Lieven quotes Nelson Pass claiming “It is nevertheless possible to have a product that measures well but doesn’t sound so good. It is still a mystery as to how this could be.” In effect Pass appears to be saying amplifier sound is mystical. But it’s not. Lots of credible published research demonstrates measurements predict sound quality. If Pass is so confident measurements don’t tell the whole story, where’s his published blind listening test demonstrating his view? Such a result would certainly help sell more of his five figure products so he has a strong incentive to publish such a test. Still, magic is an interesting analogy. Magicians know how to exploit weaknesses in our senses to deceive us. Convincing someone a $2000 power cord really sounds better is a similar act of sensory deception. Claiming Nelson Pass relies on mysticism? Heh, good one.
  5. ^ this ^ and this. How many words did he take for the O2 amp? One each shit ton from what I have seen. I would really like it if he started picking on established commercial makers (like RSA) rather than Ti, etc. Just because they haven't plunked down on a dScope or equivalent doesn't really mean shit. He can rant all he wants to about RMAA, but used properly, it isn't worthless.
  6. I bought a Delta 10" tabletop drill press at Lowes a few years ago, but they don't make that model any more. It's runout, etc. is fine for doing even PCB holes to #70 or so. That said, I'd heed Dr. Wood's advice...

  9. shit!! that's good it wasn't a stroke Reks! Hope you get feeling better.
  10. Is this the lil'knight GB board, or a new one?
  11. Was going to comment on that a couple of pages back Fitz... looks like fun Good luck!
  12. Happy Birthday!
  13. Same here...
  14. RIP!
  15. Waterford originated by doing the Schwinn Paramount frames for Schwinn from about 1980 or so? http://waterfordbikes.com/w/culture/paramount They branched out at some point during the '80s with their own frames. Vicki's Gunnar is one of their products as well. Although I am a proponent of steel, it is more the design and execution of a given material, rather than the material itself, that makes a frame good or not. For my use, steel is a good choice. My bike weighs about 23 lbs (with the seat wedge, etc.), so while not as light as many of the carbon bikes (which can get down to 16 lbs, maybe less), it isn't heavy. And for my use, the weight difference makes no real difference. I could probably cut 2 lbs off of it with modern wheels, though my hubs spin as well as anything made, and better than most.
  16. Kinda seems to be a common theme with them...
  17. Glad your brother and family are ok Vicki. My bike is a '73 Raleigh RRA, which I built up full Campy Nuovo Record, replaced the derailleurs in the '80s with Super Record. Friction shift (Simplex Retrofriction levers), so you have to hit the gears (not indexed), but for my needs is fine. BTW, I like your Gunnar alot.
  18. Is Futurelec questionable for that part? $1.65 each... http://www.futurlec.com/Transistors/2SC3675pr.shtml LittleDiode is less than bdent... they are usually hideous on pricing, and have I heard fakes from them?
  19. Happy Birthday!
  20. Decided to take most of the afternoon off since it was just gorgeous out, and I could. The current conditions had a very light wind, but forecast for a wind change and large increase later in the day. Got 27 miles in on the bike (ok, 26.85) and felt good, unlike bonking on a previous ride. Still out of shape, but getting better. The wind of course switched and I did much of the last 8 or 9 miles into about an 18-20 mph wind. Last mile or so was fun though, with the wind! Stopped in at a Trek store I hadn't been to, but had seen at about mile 10. Still don't like modern bikes I shudder to think how much it would cost me to get something modern but equivalent to my bike (full Campy, etc.)
  21. ^ Good luck Ken. Nice that things are amicable, and great that she agreed on the filing/insurance. Very nice of her.
  22. I'll echo the very nice job!

Watched the season opener tonight, and wasn't disappointed. Watched all of last season as well. Good show. Subscribed (as well as Game of Thrones... kudos to DVRs though!).
