  1. Kerry countersunk his: johnwmclean countersunk all but the Neutrik jack holes. I'm ok with only the corners countersunk, or whatever. John's panels were 2.5mm thick. Not sure on Kerry's but they look about that as well.
  2. Took a look at them (cursory); they look good!
  3. I’ll take a look at these tonight. As for the LED hole, the std. LED is a T1 3mm round. I had wondered whether a 2mm hole was big enough for these, but johnwmclean used the same for his... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Happy belated Birthday!
  5. Maybe about here... this used to be pm'd to all new members, guess it isn't anymore. Cavalli stuff isn't well thought of around here (engineering issues), FOTM issues, general fuckedness issues.
  6. I think you should widen the case as you planned to do. The additional venting for the top cover is probably wise as well. Just keep us informed as to progress and post the final design files when you are ready to place the order. Thanks!
  7. Hehe. In order to avoid paying $3.40@ for some Wellwyn RC55s from Mouser for the Salas phono stage I built, I lucked out on some from element14 (Newark) or somewhere where I had to buy something like 12-15 of them (one off) but got them for $1@ or something like that. Other values of the same resistor were on the order of $1.25@ or so. I just wouldn't pay that price each.
  8. Hi Gael, Status on this? This is getting to be somewhat ridiculous regarding time line as there was a known good design in johnwmclean's, known vendors (though certainly not as cheap), etc. Please provide an update, and thanks. I know running group buys is a pain in the fucking ass, but it is what it is.

  13. Cozymels. I hadn't eaten there in 10 years or more. It was pretty good, not great. I miss the Baja Fresh that used to be up there.
  14. Thanks guys! Had a pretty good day. It is my last week at my current job; my boss took me out for lunch to a more upscale Mexican place in Wheaton and we had a couple of margaritas and too much lunch. Kind of funny when you get along really well with a boss 30 years your junior... my Raleigh is 12 years older than he is . He was a big reason why taking the new job was such a tough decision, although the new boss seems like a good guy, and the company makes up for many of the current ones shortcomings. And got out for a short ride (6 mi) with my youngest son just before dark. Sipping the usual (Lil Sumpin'), so life is good.
  15. I prefer the FETs (170/74, 109/389 and 489/689), but it isn’t a night and day difference. The offset will be lower with them. For the 3 Dynalo minis that I built, 2 of them used 489/689 FETs and one used THAT340. I haven’t listened to them extensively, but didn’t notice huge differences. The FET boards were easier to bias and seem a bit more stable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  17. Looks like Mouser has some Abracon that have the built in cap. And yes, all of the Murata ones they stock appear to be EOL.
  18. We weren't worried about you disappearing I know these group buys are a lot of work (for you); take your time and make sure things are where you want them before pulling the trigger.
  19. RIP Margot...
  20. Thank you for all you have done Tyll, and for all of the laughs along the way! I certainly hope that your retirement travels find you healthy and living the life that you have dreamed of! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Probably very sound advice. My son followed up with this: As far as interfaces with SPDIF inputs there isn’t much on the market that’s cheap. If he wants to get a more serious setup he could look into getting a Scarlett 2i2, which is a USB interface with two Mic Pre’s on it that double well as hi-z guitar inputs. It has two 1/4 inch outputs for speakers and a headphone jack. Not sure what he’s using the Central Station for currently but it doesn’t work out as an interface, it’s more of a monitor management system.
  22. Speakers or headphone drivers in general aren’t single ended. If the cable is wired with 4 conductors, 2 to each cup, then you should be able to use it with a balanced amp. Is it terminated in a 4 pin XLR? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  24. This is what my son had to say about it. Ironbut’s input above is what I thought as well and is a good place to start: That won’t really work per say, thunderbolt and spdif are two complete different formats and I don’t see anything for a connector to connect the two. Depending on what he’s working on and how “professional” he needs it to sound, his best bet would be to get an dual RCA to 8th inch adapter or dual quarter inch to 1/8th inch Y-Splitter (typically forbidden in any professional grade sound) run his Audio port on his MacBook as an input as opposed to an output. Other than that if he can find a small interface that has ADAT or SPDIF capabilities that would be his best bet in recording music with his presonus in the future. There doesn’t seem to be any type of digital output on it other than Toslink/ADAT or SPDIF. I’ll take a look and see what I can find for interfaces. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. I asked my son (who is in music production/recording engineering at Columbia college). I'll let you know if he has any insight. From what I know, Thunderbolt doesn't do SPDIF, so you are probably going to need some sort of adapter (OWC? maybe Monoprice?).
