  1. Lol. The chef's razor wit?
  2. it doesn't help this problem. Just going to be more heat in the PSU than usual, or he will need to run it at higher rails (which would cause more heat to be in the amp, unless adjusted), etc.
  3. How much clearance is in the bottom chamber, i.e. height?
  4. you might want to design your own PCBs for that build. good luck!
  5. I agree. But most subs fall into two categories, sealed and ported. I tend to think that these other designs might prove to be less problematic. Just an intuition though but one I'd like to confirm.
  6. For whatever reason, I'm intrigued about this problem Deepak. Budget? Do you want stereo subs? Is a separate amp (not a plate amp) okay? For HT, I'd definitely recommend these TH. For ESLs, I'm not sure I would, due to delay issues. In fact, this is one of the main reasons I'm not sure how they will integrate with my horns. I'd assume that whatever would work for my horns would work for the ESLs. The reason I ask about group delay, phase, etc. is that the reason that many people go with ESLs is to avoid these issues that they believe to be paramount. Adding a sub and maintaining these goals is difficult.
  7. So, I will return a question with a question. How audible do you believe time delay is (for subwoofer integration)? Here's one discussion: http://sound.westhost.com/pcmm.htm oh and also, this design is not really a OB, but a tapped horn design. And, because I'm curious, what OB was recommended? perhaps a H-frame?
  8. heh. I thought one thing and asked another. Really. My real question is, did you try elevating the PRP resistors before putting the Xicons in (which you clearly did)... yeah, that's the ticket.
  9. Did you end up replacing the PRP resistors in the batteries, or elevating them? I cannot tell from the picture
  10. Ari and Justin: Please read and comment on this thread. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=212953
  11. agreed. Also, the F1 and F1J have a high output impedance (and F2 and F2J).... so, it doesn't make sense to make an exception for them Tyll. My point is that It's the other ones that have low output impedance, aren't gm amps and sound awesome in the context above. Also, here are some quotes to consider from the F1 owner's manual: This is a very unusual amplifier that will not sound good with about 98% of the loudspeakers on the market. It requires careful attention to loudspeaker loading to get the best performance. The accompanying white paper “Current Source Amplifiers and Full-Range High-Efficiency Drivers” is required reading. This is a tinkerer’s amplifier, and experimental tool. If you just want to be a consumer, then buy something else, otherwise be prepared to patiently experiment with your system to get the best performance. It does not often work well with ordinary passive crossover networks – the components and their locations tend to be reversed. It won’t break, but probably won’t sound good
  12. Best amps I have heard my Lowthers and Fostex are low impedance. I think the First Watt J2 is half an ohm.. plenty of people seem to agree, look at 6moons article for the J2 where a room of people compared the FW series and loved the F4 F5 and J2 the highest of which has 0.4 ohms.

  14. Unless she has flooded her kitchen of course...
  15. Looks like cable fetish is getting close to my professional line of work: http://gizmodo.com/5928934/is-there-anyone-stupid-enough-to-believe-that-this-cable-has-anti+virus-protection?utm_campaign=socialflow_gizmodo_facebook&utm_source=gizmodo_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow
  16. No n-ch jfets in this design. Dunno about EBay, don't shop for transistors there...
  17. The F6 uses an inner stage transformer. Probably not what you want
  18. I have played with the circuit. Are you looking for something for the stats? If so I would recommend the Aleph J-X.
  19. So, getting on the ball here. Questions: What dates are the people wanting to hit the race interested in? I'd use this to put forth dates to the group. Once we have this nailed down, I figured accommodations are next. I see the following categories of attendance and accommodations - Interested in a place to sleep, must have private room that sleeps X (where if X > 2 mad props), willing to pay a few bucks for such an arrangement - Above, but not willing to pay or are flexible on private part - Interested in a floor/couch/public area and have a few bucks handy to throw in the pot - Above, but not willing to pay - Wanting third-party accommodations I'd say any money raised would go to "scholarships" to increase attendance, or whatever the group decides. So, dates! then I'll go from there.
  20. Arch is cool good recommendation
  21. Waiting to get on the train to head back to Princeton... I think the poker thing worked out well in the end. I felt like I was conflicted about hands going up against the boss and didn't really care if I lost them and ended up winning all the big ones
  22. won a few grand off a potential future employer playing poker. not sure how to play that one, sorta risky, but hey.
  23. unlikely. why? guess who owns this company and what they happen to manufacture. http://www.shuguangelec.com
  24. Stax uses reed relays? I'm surprised. I certainly would not attempt this.
