Mazzy Star, Seasons of Your Day -- first listen on NPR -- first album in 17 years!?!? I think they out MBV'd MBV.

Not so much heresy as ... wrong. I'll have to disagree that if_then_else or Black Light District were anything other than top form for them. But I really like the post-Anneke stuff quite a bit, too, and continue to buy their stuff blindly without disappointment. That "that said" said, I think "Afterwords" and "Echoes Keep Growing" are even better -- two of the best things I've heard from them in years, and really look forward to the new album.

The problem with speakers vs. headphones are that headphones are designed to sound right about a cm from the driver, whereas speakers are designed to sound right feet from the driver, so I would think you would need some sort of bass reflex enclosure to correct how wrong headphones sound when you lay them on your desk and turn up the volume.

Placebo, Loud Like Love -- special full album stream preview. EDIT: This is so great. Nothing gets me going like some good, hooky rock. Hard pop. Whatever you want to call it. Couple ballads thrown in ("Hold on to Me", "Bosco").

At its core, I don't think they're that different. I think what makes them seem so different are the apps that one uses the most. That said, I haven't used iOS in a few years. The difference between linux (Ubuntu) and Windows, on the other hand, remains large. I really like linux's ability to update everything through a common interface, whereas Windows' will only update Microsoft products. I think everything else is a case of familiarity.
