I'd shift your bias way toward the microphones if you want to record music. Get the cheapest recorder you can find (I had an m-audio microtrack, but I think the Korg MR1s have gotten cheap), and spend the rest on microphones.

I'd definitey go with a flash based recorder over minidisc. I don't like atrac as a concept for recording.

I'd say $40 off $229 is a good deal, especially since apple warranties refurbs as new. And $149 for a 40gb appletv is a great deal if you are going to upgrade it.
