I definitely have scotch that's over 6 months old. It's crazy talk to say it goes bad that fast.

the drivers are not expensive is my understanding, I'd be surprised if they actually reused them.

Do they have new shells and the new cable style?

Do any fountain pens work at all left handed?

Logic dictates USB-C will have dock options. You could also do everything you're doing with all of those things plugged into a thunderbolt dock.
