  1. Yes, but it does not have teh wifi's. I'd say I'm just about done with Apple, not just AT&T. The degree to which they have effed their customers with ios4 and the iPhone4 is staggering. I saw a friend last night who also has a perfectly useless 3G as a result of installing ios4, he caved and bought a new phone to fix the problem.
  2. Dropped 4 calls tonight while driving on the interstate. I suppose it's too much to expect coverage on a 4 lane highway. I other fun news my phone has stopped ringing. It still can ring (tested it in settings) but does not ring when I get a call, awesome.
  3. Dang, that's pretty hot for a PT or at least seems it to me. I've only known one to run that hot and it was a fully potted and shielded version. 50C on the BJTs sounds right to me too.
  4. We have a thread for that....
  5. Anyone else having big issues with AT&T lately, or more than normal I should say? My phone keeps spitting out "Could Not Activate Cellular Data Network" errors despite being in 5bar 3G coverage areas that have always worked just fine. My phone also randomly would not/could not find 3G service in down town Portsmouth this afternoon until I did a hard reset. After that it still gave me the data network error a couple of times.
  6. Errrrmmmm.... I'm not worried about the long-term health of the board, I agree that once in the case it's more than adequately supported. It's during the build process that has me concerned. I also think it'd be fun if you could hack the board in half and separate the PSU and amp sections but I digress and understand the design decision.
  7. Will it have the wifis?
  8. One recommendation I would make so far would be to see if it's possible to make the PCB thicker (and still fit the slots of course). The poor proto boards wilt under the weight of the various iron bits and I don't even have the choke on there yet.
  9. True, but even my PS3 can play m4v's so it's a pretty valuable container in my book. It's one of the few ways that I've found to download HD mkv rips and have them be useful. It's a sucky workflow to have to download and then immediately transcode via Handbreak but it's better than being stuck with far lower quality avi rips of the shows that I want to watch.
  10. I did get a nasty wack from the Exstata, so you are certainly correct to preach caution and I appreciate it.
  11. It's a nerdy DIY thing. All "assemble" means in this case is either find a friend willing to help lift it or rent an engine crane since it weighs the better part of 350 pounds.
  12. Heh indeed. Just turned it on for the first time, shit the DRO is cool.
  13. Bought months ago, finally arrived today. I won't be able to assemble it fully until the weekend but I'm already giddy with excitement.
  14. This was kind of my thinking, along with the whole 'one hand in the pocket approach.
  15. Not even with my tongue?
  16. It's on and making music. Testing so far with HD201s (go ahead, blow me up headphones) so no comment on sound yet, it's too damn hot to do any critical listening tonight. Q2L/R do run pretty damn hot though, even with the little heat sinks that I have. I don't think the infrared is getting a good reading so tomorrow night I'll try to break out the thermocouple and get something better than the ~110F that doesn't seem nearly hot enough. I can't lay a finger on them for a half second before pain.
  17. We decided it was too damn hot for a bath tonight but Lily didn't want to run through the sprinklers, so I ran through them holding her. It felt good.
  18. Got home, found some heat sinks, found caps in the mailbox, found that my basement is about 15 degrees cooler than the rest of the house so I soldered the last of the parts in. Time to watch some TV with the wife but I expect to flip the switch later tonight.
  19. Good luck using that as a phone. Or fitting it in a pocket.
  20. It's not that bad, Steve, thankfully there isn't anything that I have to do outside. One good thing the heat has done, just about kill my lawn despite having an irrigation system. The back yard, which is almost totally unprotected from shade is just scorched.
  21. Worked through meetings all morning, mindless drivel in the afternoon. Just got home, it's 92 on the first floor of the house, line voltage is running ~114VAC and it's just too hot to do anything. The internets says it feels like 102 out, I believe it.
  22. I'm with you, Mike, I fail to see how the bars displaying differently will help with the capacitive coupling that is occurring between the two antennas, which would appear to be the real issue. Furthermore, emelius is right in saying that any sort of non-conductive insulating later between your hand and the phone should help.
  23. I liked using my IR remote a lot better when I shot fireworks a few years back.
  24. Yeah, it's such a hassle that you only took care of 98% of the parts for me. Sheesh. [/sarcasm] I need some pot from Digikey anyway so I'll drop a small order today and put the choke on order too. Our friends from across the pond are taking their sweet time with my caps so evidently I'm not in a rush. [edit]And I actually had the sink for the Vreg part, leftover from Millett days gone by. It's the crappy too many holes version but should still be sufficient given that I plan to do more than the typical amount of ventilation on this chassis. And looking at the HS216 part I'd swear I have a few of those kicking around too somewhere so I should probably have a good look before needlessly ordering more and adding to the already stupid # of spare parts on hand.
