Another great day with Lily, minus about an hour in the middle of the afternoon when we discovered that she'd seen fit to put 4 diapers (thankfully at least clean diapers) into our laundry basket which then made it into the washer. Vacuuming out the washer off and on for about an hour alternating between running it empty on spin cycles and rinse/spin cycles appears to have cured it of all of the absorbent material that was left behind but my wife was pretty nonplussed by the ordeal.

The hardest part of doing this is going to be holding the workpiece in place. The mill is well equipped for this, most drill presses are not.

I may as well, but I had the opportunity to check one out the other day and wasn't blown away by the readability of e-ink. I'd like to see the new model with its improved contrast.

Apple is starting to overuse the whole "magical" thing in their marketing and naming.

Thanks for the link, this certainly seems to have helped my 3G.

I might be interested in the Extreme, Haj. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you decide to move it. Me: after morning depression already mentioned I took a quick spin down to meet up with Haj to drop off a DAC, drove home and then took Lily to York's Wild Animal Kingdom. It was a great time, first time I can remember seeing a lion or tiger, both very impressive animals. All sorts of other neat stuff too. Of course the highlight for Lily was feeding the goats and ducks and then riding the merry go round with me. We also got to watch as the local FD had to break out the ladder truck to rescue patrons who were stuck on the ferris wheel. Yikes, I would not wanted to have been those folks since even at 5pm it was still a steamy 90 and most if not all of them were exposed to the sun.

Agreed and true, but it's a summer show. It'll tide me over till Undercovers starts in the fall.

NAS vs. Drobo Storage for Mac Audio/Video Server
n_maher replied to Voltron's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
Mike, I'm considering the same type of purchase and will be looking at the Netgear ReadyNAS solutions. Marc (luvdunhill) seemed to be very happy with his and I like that it can run the slim software easily. Also, be aware that Jim's Drobo is the older, non-networked version (at least I think it is) so it's not NAS. -
Had a meeting with our financial planner which has the usual effect of making me feel dirt poor and that I'm likely to retire to a cardboard box at 90. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Happy Birthday!

It was a day filled with mixed emotions. I somehow managed to be there past 5 on my last day, despite wanting to get out around 3. And yup, I've got the week off to rest, retool and enjoy. Today was spent at the beach with Lily, off to dinner with Ian in a bit since he's the one responsible for this mess.

Proof positive that there is always someone who has it worse than you do.

You could say that I did, yes.

I hadn't tried the DFO instructions, but probably will later today, thanks for the link.

I'd do a quick check of output amplitude to see if it's affecting performance at that level. Otherwise you're just chasing rainbows hoping for tubes to be better matched than 10%, at least IMO.

Major Surgery Revives 35 Year Old Amp
n_maher replied to agile_one's topic in Headphone Amplification
Gene, I have this little Blue Hawaii space heater that needs some tender loving care, shall I bring it up to Maine for you? -
Removing the screen was painless, at least on my case. And I don't know enough about your specific version of the O'box case to speak intelligently about it. I suspect that if you're worried about it you probably have a valid concern and at this point my recommendation would be to return the case. It doesn't seem like you're a fan. I can tell you that the only reason that I stuck with mine is that it was free.

Jeff, I took the screen protector out of my Otterbox case after realizing that it was the cause of a good deal of my first round of frustrations with the iPhone. It is a much better case without it and I'd imagine the same would hold true for the '4' case. And the headphone jack thing is annoying but a sharp blade will cure that flap of what ails it.

I freely admit to giggling like a little girl while working and also wondering what exactly my hesitation was in buying something like this in the past. Jebus, the number of hours wasted using the wrong tool for the job.
-
Not really, imagine how fat the phone would be with a case like that if it had started it's life thicker?

In more fun news I finally got to try the big mill tonight in its role as precision round hole cutter accessory. In doing dome final testing of Al's BHse I decided that I wanted to add a bit more ventilation to the power supply chassis. This previously would have meant hours of layout, punch, drill, redrill, redrill again to add the roughly 30 or so holes that I wanted to do. I got the piece setup on the mill in about 10 minutes and a little over a half hour later I was done. Mill/drill FTMFW!

I didn't miss your point, I'm just being obstinate. I do want to clarify one thing - I think it'd be great if Tmo got the iPhone. As referenced in the article I linked to Tmo's plans are generally about 30% cheaper than AT&T and some price competition between carriers would/should benefit consumers.

It's my world, which is to say that I could give two shits about how their coverage is anywhere else. Although I'd argue that Boston is a better example, where last week AT&T could manage no more than Edge service that was so weak it couldn't find a reliable enough data signal to send a picture message. Or is Fenway Park to rural for you?
-
If you get stuck Stretch let me know, I'm pretty sure the unit Gene linked to could be safely re-packed in a USPS Flat Rate Medium sized box and sent to you for ~$50 (quote was $43.45 w/ delivery in 6 to 10 days).
-
Not in my neck of the woods. With the updated bars on the iPhone courtesy of 4.0.1 I know get a much better picture of just how wretched AT&T's coverage is up here.
