  1. Don't tempt me to start randomly deleting your posts.
  2. I'd say the odds are good and also welcome to my digital hell. It's a NE thing. What's the problem with the Aragon (allegedly)?
  3. FYI to the Buffalo crazies, Version II goes up for pre-sale this weekend. Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio - View Single Post - Twisted Pear Buffalo Sabre DAC
  4. If you get stuck and want confirmation of your testers readings I can test the 5998s for you and see if my results match or at least parallel yours.
  5. When you say the 5998s test "low" on the 6AS7 settings do you mean they test bad or just lower than 6AS7s? And honestly, I'm not sure how much difference that slight an adjustment on the sensitivity dial on your 747 will make and in which direction. Also, if you want the full tube setup file that I plucked that info from just let me know. It's a pretty small file and I could email it to you.
  6. I suggest calling, most small businesses have a painful choice of either answering email all day or dealing with customers. A phone call shows a lot more initiative than an email to most traditional business folks so it might yield much better results even if you just end up leaving a message. It's at least worth trying before sending a nasty-gram to Naim USA.
  7. Yeah Marc, those are nice (albeit 3x as $$) but my gripe is that they don't cover much range. The one you listed will do 30 to 20 and I often find myself working with 18 and 16ga wires and the thought of buying 2 @ $50+ each is more than this humble DIYer's budget can bear. And it would appear that 18ga is the largest any of them can handle...
  8. Time to find out if automatic wire strippers are all they're cracked up to be.
  9. Tom, I hope you heal swiftly and with as little pain as possible. Aura, my condolences. Al, shit man, first round is on me.
  10. Shelly, Here's a piece of the 747 tube setup sheet, at least according to the Boat Anchor Archive, which is usually pretty correct. I've highlighted the 5998 settings, but since I've never used a 747 tester I can't really tell if they make sense. 5998 Here's the 6AS7 info, which maybe you can match to your manual and see if they are the same. That might serve as a good check that the 5998 data is correct.
  11. Let me know if your Seamaster needs adopting.

I do not want to know what that smells like.
  13. Easily fixed with a M-Audio Transit and still $50+ under budget. I'd rather buy a good DAC and adapt USB to it than to buy a bad DAC that happened to have a USB input.
  14. My suggestion, buy The Monkey's Para 1000. It'll actually save you $$ vs. your budget which you can then apply to other things.
  15. He should update his website then, it still very much says that they are going to mod your existing drivers.
  16. I'd request the drivers back, they are not without value.
  17. I think a lot of it is actually post production. There was a video posted not too long ago that detailed the work that went into photographing a product, it was insane.
  18. Yeah, but you can have friends...
  19. Happy Birthday!
  20. I don't think the idea is about "better" when it comes to ebooks it's about being good enough at that one task and vastly superior at many others.
  21. A week ago I heard, and largely agreed with, that Amazon would be a huge fan of the iPad since up to that point it really hadn't seemed like Amazon wanted to be in the Kindle business. Given the events and actions of the week following the iPad announcement it would seem I was very much in the wrong.
  22. I often listen to the "Live Ireland" radio station on my SB3 while I work in the DIY lab. The quality is horrid, but I like the music so what can you do? I think it's streamed at a jaw dropping 56kbps.
  23. I'll try to get a few pics up soon, they look as one would expect them to so there really isn't much to show. Initial musings... fit is pretty good although the left earpiece, which at first felt better than the right seems to actually fit a little worse and cause slight discomfort after it's removed but oddly not while wearing them. I wore them for a couple of 1hr+ stretches this weekend and didn't have any issues during use, but on Sunday my left ear canal was a little sore. I want to give this a little time before assuming a re-fit will be necessary since my ears and I are new to customs and I could be part of the problem. Sound quality wise the review is mixed. I had no real listening time with the original TF10 so I can't compare but my impression so far is that they are considerably more laid back than my ER4Ps. I'm one of those people who never had an issue with how the Etys sounded on the top end so right now I do kind of feel like something is missing up there. We'll see how that goes as I aclimate to this particular presentation. I can say that they have pretty decent low end, not bloated or flabby and certainly in greater quantity compared to the Etys. I guess so far what I'd say is that given the $200ish price point that these represent to me I'm very pleased but if I'd say, dropped the MSRP of $400 on the TF10s and then another $100 getting them refitted I probably wouldn't feel the same way.
  24. You're not alone.
