DSP certainly makes it a lot easier but what you said was "DSP-based convolution of the signal based on an average head or room transfer function" which is likely what it is.
Well I've actually written my own convolution generator etc for DSP and I see nothing that can't be done in analog (admittedly not with the control you get in DSP). I'm getting an SPL phonitor for review (bloody shipping is taking forever) which includes a very complex crossfeed and I'll know better how they do working in the analog domain.
Yup. It's a stereo imaging control. My DEQ 2496 has a similar thing built in as one of the many functions.
I'm sure it has slightly different controls than others but in the end they all do phase shifting and some attenuation.
Good times. Interesting to see what the price ends up being.
Got the same thing with my GS-X SE vs GS-X Balanced. It's very interesting. I have been thinking about it and there is inherent canceling of the even order harmonics from the balanced setup and I think it's making the whole thing less distorted.
Also I totally agree with Grawk about there being a lot of distortion to start with. The issue is not that the two are the same but that which one is distorted for me.
It's interesting: I changed to using my Linn Classik Headphone out fed from my DEQ 2496 DAC and I got a -30 but went back to the GS-X and DAC3 and got -18 again...... odd
I haven't heard the ZD but I've heard a 2 betas and the luxman and I'd say that the luxman is a very "gentle" amp and has it's own flavor while a beta can be rather revealing of everything upstream.
That Sony makes me drool every time I see it. It's too bad it makes absolutely no sense for me in because there is no way to apply EQ to it unless I want to either re-digitize (then no advantage to the dac) or use analog eq with all the phase issues that entails. I've played with my EQ enough to know that I'm not going back listening to without it (or a similar unit).
Unless of course the HD800s are so transparent that I don't need eq anymore
Actually if you were a resident of the US when you earned it you owe taxes on it. You'll be credited for whatever EU taxes you already paid.
If you earned it while you were abroad (and not a US cibring it on in. It's just money moving around not income at that point. I brought a lot of money in that I had before moving to the US and had no issues because it's not income it's money that you already "own".
I the end it may be worth it talk to an accountant.
I know someone who has and he said there was a whole lot of empty but that may not be the most pimped out one out there etc. With the level of options he offers it's good to have lots of room. Even if you fill it with crap.
Well I'd be interested in getting one too. Maybe I can convince someone to screw me really bad and get one too
I'm just kidding but if there are boards etc out I'm really really interested.
The Chord DAC64 for example just inserts a delay in the signal train and does the reclocking and doesn't require any extra outputs. I don't see much of an issue with this but I can see that it may require another implementation.
Yeah I see your point and they said as much. To be honest though if you have the async USB going why not pass the TOSLINK data to the same ASYNC chip and you're off and running. Anyway they may do that in the future and I hope they do.
