I have received this letter from Maria Schneider, for being a newsletter subscriber at Artistshare: Dear Antonio J., It's with great sadness that I share news of Bob Brookmeyer's death. I've loved Bob's compositions and arrangements and his playing since the moment I first heard his music in the '70s. It turned my life around. Bob became a wonderful teacher, mentor and dear friend. And he was enormously generous to those lucky enough to be his friend. Oddly, Bob's newest recording came out last week--an astoundingly beautiful vocal album of arrangements where every cut is a perfect gem. It's one of those that you just want to listen to again and again. I've received calls from Jim Hall, Scott Robinson--numerous musicians who are in disbelief at the depth of it. His musicians give a spectacular performance that's vividly full of love. I was asked by Bob to write the liner notes, which was easy to do, and at one point I wrote: "... there are two silent gaps that come near the end of this arrangement that are almost painful they're so sudden. It leaves you scared it's over. What a wonderful feeling to not want it to be over." The same could be said by all of us about Bob and his music. It's so sad there won't be more. On the other hand, what a gift Bob has been giving us all for decades. There's so much to be grateful for. And here is one final, spectacular little gem that he's left with us. Thank you, Bob. What a life! What an incredible life. Thank you for making this world a better place. You will be deeply missed. Wishes of love, peace and happiness for your holidays. Maria Great musician, I'll miss him too

It probably was static electricity, I've had some of those shocks using the PS-1 and other cans, but never with IEM.

LOL that was the first (and only) set of surround speakers for a PC that I've owned. I still keep it all, the 4 satellites, the amplifier-sub and the volume control. I wonder if someone would take profit of it now. They were fine for gaming. Fortunately I had other audio system for music listening

I agree with dsavitsk, for the HD800 highish output impedance. OTOH for most orthodynamics I've tried including the LCD-2, the lowest the impedance, the better. The LCD-2 on the P1 sucked big time. Well, that's exaggerating, just sounded too flabby, recessed, flat and boring. Kinda chubby.

I haven't listened to the HE60 in my life so can't agree nor disagree, but knowing the way we hear both, it's very likely we'd agree If that custom vintage silver wire for the LCD-2 is balanced, I want one too, so more shilling, as usual Now seriously, it'd be interesting trying these balanced from the Gilmore Ref. In the worst case with an adapter I could play with some other amps. I have this YBA which could drive them to fire

x3 I like better the HD800 + P-1 than the LCD-2 (Rev2) + Beta-22. However I see them as different tools for different uses. Kind of the difference between the 007 and 009.

You're right, my fault entirely, I took the top graph on your first post as the 404LE's and the lower as the 404's. I didn't see each graph had both colors. My apologies Now I understand why you didn't see such clear differences hahaha

The response curves IMO aren't nearly identical. Take as a reference the flat line from 100 to 500Hz. On the 404 the response keeps increasing from there and get up to 15dB higher than that line at 3-4KHz. All the treble response is above that line. OTOH on the LE all the treble is under that line, as low as by 10dB and the only part of the treble leveling the response from the 100-500 baseline is at 8-10KHz and only by a few dB. That's far from the 10dB higher response at these frequencies the 404 have. By looking the response curve I'd expect the 404 to be tending to bright, detailed, airy and with a good sense of soundstage. Depending on recordings, even sibilant. The 404-LE should be a bit darker yet still detailed, but not bright nor sibilant. I must say I had a pair of 404 at home for a couple of months, hence I know their sound a bit, but never listened to the 404LE.

IMO it's not the same category at all. Logitech already had a prestige of making decent products. What prestige has Edifier if any? Secondly, the squeezebox isn't a product that compares in the slightest to the craftsmanship that making a pair of 009 or 007 requires. A squeezbox is a box full of electronics like many of other thousands made anywhere in the planet. Anyway, time will tell, but I'm quite afraid Stax headphones won't have the same quality in a couple of years. Of course it will be more profitable, which is what leads these type of deals.

blah blah blah blah, were you expecting this guy to say that they will screw up Stax by moving production to China, then using the brand to name crappy dynamic cans made by Edifier? I'll believe any of that when I see any Stax electrostatic headphone made in 3-5 years still wearing a "made in Japan" sticker and sounding every bit as good as current units.

I'd try to bend it back straight, but I'm afraid it will break. If it does, then get a new stylus, I guess you can get a new one, but if it's pricey and costs close to a whole new cart, maybe getting the whole thing is a better idea. The Goldring 1042 is a decent sounding MM cart which should sound quite similar to the Reca.

Thanks for the Harmon explanation. I guess it's like base and bass. These things are way less obvious when you just read about them and don't hear the words pronounced. For many of them my brain has a "guess sound" but not more.
