Is there a "Dummies guide to soldering and circuit boards"?
Voltron replied to runnin17's topic in Do It Yourself
I've had the same misapprehension, but in this case the thread must have been pretty buried. Kind of a clue that it isn't current. -
I have used my HF-1s for travel cans for years. The HF-2s are better but heavier so they typically stay home. I do like them both and will not sell either of them.

You're a helpful lot, but this thread is one year old and the OP hasn't posted since last April. Grave robbers. -

Amp/DAC recommendation for D2000 & DT990
Voltron replied to rpaul's topic in Headphone Amplification
Agree as to HP1s but I put a balanced Equinox on my PS-1s and think it is an improvement over the stock. I kept the stock for later, although this is one set of cans I intend to will to my kids. -
Yeah, 1.5 x 1 seems right. That way the diameter is just about half of the height of the panel.

Kevin, do you have a drawing or picture of the face plate? I'm generally in favor of big KaNOBBs but I agree that nearly 3" seems too large. Seeing the plate layout and dimensions could help though.

Now I'm hungry, thanks Mike. That's very cool Nate. Have fun, especially since there won't be a Mexican showing up and ruining it for everyone. Pics or ban, Steve, pics or ban.

The mother of pearl is really sweet looking. Not sure about the sharks, but maybe pics in ears would help us tell you what you should do! Drag, but listen and learn to love them.

Good news on all fronts Pete.

Agreed. Damn the sound is so great too. Now playing another fave of yours: Morrissey -- Years of Refusal

Fox cannot wait to sign him up for a new show. It will kick ass and can start at 11 to really fuck with Leno.

Amp/DAC recommendation for D2000 & DT990

Not to derail the Stax Mafia's strong-arm recommendations, which are very worthy, but the Rockhopper balanced M3 is a very fine idea and there may be a very worthy B22 posted soon but the one linked above is NOT worth consideration because of the builder. I can't really see the Bijou being a different enough or improved enough option over the EHHA to justify that purchase. The ZD/ZDT/BA options at Eddie Current are among the best and will make those Joe Grados sing like you may not have ever heard them. If you insist on keeping those stupid D7Ks, then they will make them listenable. Woo Audio options should be considered as well, and a nice WA6 would be great in your price range. Oh, and by the way, I am sitting here staring at the 12 glowing tubes on my SinglePower amp in the house I own, so there are many people around who have them and even love them. Mikhail should be strung up for many things but he made some great amps along the way. -
I signed up last night, so thanks for running this! It is very cool that Citrix is matching. I have a love/hate relationship with the program because it can be a pain, but it is really a great thing for working on the road or from home. Good luck winning some of the runner-up prizes, because this kind of thing seems to work out for me somehow.

Bummer Pete! Hope you can get it back in action without much delay or trouble. JP nailed some things right there. And by far the PC-1 is the best cart I have had on my table. Very happy to have gotten it in nearly new condition for $4K less than list!

JP came over and helped my set up the Air Tight PC-1 on my second VPI 10.5i tonearm, with Nordost cabling unlike the original. The Koetsu Rosewood Signature Platinum is on my original 10.5i tonearm. The great thing with the arm is that you can easily pop one off and the other on without any need for further adjustment. We played Naima from the remastered Giant Steps on the Koetsu first and then the Air Tight. They certainly both sounded great, but the differences were significant. The Air Tight is more dynamic and fast, and was clearly digging out more of what is in those grooves. The sax tone and details through the Air Tight really were remarkably better and the piano was like listening to different recordings it was so different. The overtones and vibrations of the wires were so nuanced and the air around the notes was something else. The cymbals were also clear and detailed without harshness or glare. I'm pretty stoked. JP can make his own comments if he feels like it, but he had the same impressions, but an apt one he made was the the Koetsu is obviously more euphonic although still very nice sounding. I'm looking forward to trying out the Skala vs. PC-1 soon, and JP had the good idea of trying the Koetsu on the new arm with the Nordost silver cable to see if it brightens/sharpens it a bit. The idea of switching both carts/arms is less than appealing at the moment, but I will at least get to the Skala and PC-1 combo because it has been awhile since I had the Skala.
