  1. Grandioso seems like a really stupid name for headphones. Merriam agrees: Main Entry: gran

  3. That's so cool, Dinny!
  4. I had a leftover grilled cheese for lunch! This was better, though.
  5. Nice dinner at home with my kids, consisting of chicken piccata, rice, and mixed greens. A small drop of chardonnay went nicely.

Good to hear! You were missed in LA.

BTW, no double rooms on June 4-5 again. Kept cozy king bed reservation, but will try again another time. I've never seen a hotel's reservations/availability fluctuate as much as this place.
  10. Dr. Wood's work, indeed.
  11. Anouar Brahem Trio -- Astrakan Cafe
  12. Exactly right. They can always bulk up later model and give them more options.
  13. Hate the name of this thing, but I will definitely be getting one. If I can skip the POS Dell laptop I have from work and can just take this little biscuit on the road, then I will be very happy. Almost everything I do is internet-based through Citrix so I don't need big storage, etc. Nothing terribly shocking or completely out of the box compared to the speculation, but it looks like it will be huge as Stretch and others have said. Naysayers can go on typing their complaints on their shitty little PC netbooks, assuming they can read what they type on those poopy little screens.
  14. Sweet deal Steve! Have fun spinning.

    Arrgh. Did you book online?
  16. I'll try to post when sampling them, and will share with the crew out here next month. The store also had that PVW 23 decanter and glasses that you saw at the distillery. Pretty damn sweet but I don't really collect stuff like that. Did you read that, Gene? ^ You can satisfy that curiosity next month. I thought you had most or all of the PVW collection, Mike, but you're lucky JP, Gene and I didn't find it when we were at your house without you in December. Mike and Stretch are really amassing some serious gear these days! Dayum!

  21. That looks cool, and it's surprising it is the first product to incorporate a dock/dac/headamp. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Received the P1u from Todd today and it is a beauty. I actually might like the brushed silver face more than the original P1's champagne gold. The P1 is about one inch wider, but the other dimensions are very close between the two units. Obviously, the P1u has 2 headphone outs instead of 3, but it does sport a loop out that is nice. The unit comes with plastic caps on all the inputs and the outputs, which I left on except for the XLR ins. The P1u feels much like the tank that the P1 is. I set them up stacked on top of each other, and they are both plugged into a Shunyata Hydra 8 power conditioner with Crystal Cable Reference PCs. They are receiving identical inputs from the Amarra Model 4, which has 8 channels of XLR output. The cable, I believe, is a Mogami wire product, and it breaks out the 8 channels from a DB25 connector. Other than volume matching, there shouldn't really be any variables going back and forth between the two siblings. I have just started listening and have tried a number of songs of different varieties, using an Audio Technica AD2000 and a Sennheiser HD800. Without going into detail, which I cannot really offer as yet, I would say that the two units sound more similar than different. I hope to spend some quality time with both of them to really see what I can hear that distinguishes them. From what I can tell early on, the P1u easily steps into its big brother's shoes. Here are some pics, and it is particularly difficult to photograph these shiny beasts at night so they are nothing special.
  23. I also realized today that there is no question that my arms are covered in poison oak rash. I worked on a creek restoration project at my son's school and in the process of removing invasive species like blackberry my arms got scratched up. There must have been a good amount of poison oak where I was working. Damn I hate poison oak.
  24. That's just because I bought booze with Old in the name. And Ken, since you will be in Mayberry next month you will be a temporary family member. Indeed, Grahame, indeed.
  25. I found a local source for Thomas Handy Sazerac Rye and it turned out the shop had a great collection of whisk(e)y. I also bought the Van Winkle Family Rye and Lot B bourbon, but I held off on the whole Van Winkle range. I went back this weekend and got the rest because they aren't around for long. Pappy 15yo, 20yo and 23yo, plus the Old Rip Van Winkle 10yo in 90 and 107 proof. There was also a pair of Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection 375ml bottles with two different double-barreled whiskeys, one 11yo and one one 16yo. Sorry for the booze lust, but here are some pics.
