January 7Jan 7 comment_966916 ok, this is head case :), what do you mean by inexpensive? I found it almost impossible to motivate myself to ride a purely mechanical trailer. Just got bored. I would get any trainer that would connect to zwift, and would read https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2020/11/trainer-recommendations-winter.html to get an idea about what the options are. Report
January 7Jan 7 comment_966932 Haha, there are always budget options. I usually go for end gmae stuff, but bills and all that. Thanks for the link, I'll have a look later tonight. Edited January 7Jan 7 by philodox Report
January 8Jan 8 comment_966938 Dan's advice is solid. I got the Kickr on black Friday so it's a bit more now but is the bottom of the range direct drive model they make. I decided to get what i needed instead of what i might want. Report
January 11Jan 11 comment_967023 After mornings outside when the temps are in the 30s I could get used to going out when it is already 70 at dawn in Hawaii. Report

January 29Jan 29 comment_967394 In better, and somewhat hilarious news... I'm especially fond of the 14,000 vs. fewer than 40 metric. Tell me how your bill failed without saying your bill failed... Report
February 1Feb 1 comment_967475 Slowly but surely continuing to improve. I've got a long way to go before I can challenge Nate for FTW (w/kg I have no chance), but its amazing how much a little bit of regular riding improves your cardio. Edited February 1Feb 1 by TMoney Report
February 2Feb 2 comment_967483 Hell yeah, Adam! The only advice I have is get after it and as someone else I follow on Strava would say, "This suffering is a privilege." Well, maybe one more thing - don't ever worry about comparisons to others. One of my good friends from 30+ years ago rides 8,000+ miles a year (pilot) and when he rides centuries with us barely breaks 140bpm at 50+ years old. I just can't be him. I'm a year younger but have always outweighed him by 40lbs even when we're both fit. He also doesn't know how to have fun, so as usual balance is the answer. Report
March 20Mar 20 comment_968503 I’m starting to get sucked in to watching the professional races. Yes, they are on in the middle of the night, but the replays work just fine. The strategy is interesting and the knucklehead-ism (as Chris Horner would say) is amusing. The racing is quite a bit more exciting than the early F1 season. Milan-Sanremo should be fun this weekend. March 20Mar 20 comment_968505 Rode 20 miles with a fair amount of climbing in the heat today and felt like I had done something. But then I watched the 150th Milano - Torino race that was a bit longer with more climbing. Oh well. HBO Max and Peacock have way more cycling during the classics season than was available here before and I watch lots of it. Report
April 12Apr 12 comment_969007 A very exciting Sunday in Hell. No spoilers this time! Apropos of Roubaix, I put some 40mm slicks on to try out. I am very interested to see how they feel. Report
April 12Apr 12 comment_969023 The bike is looking SWEET! I got out for a nice 27mi windy rip around town this afternoon. Felt good to be back outside again before I have to travel for a few days and be away from the bike. Report
April 19Apr 19 comment_969177 Got the Cervelo back out on the road on one of our few sunny spring days so far. It was windy, but still a nice rip around town. Report
April 26Apr 26 comment_969312 Spring is the perfect time to get out on long rides before the staggering summer heat comes my way. LOVING the 40mm tires. They are maybe a little sluggish on accelerations but they ride so smooth and are ace on descents. I'm also starting to love climbing on this thing. You really have no choice but to put down the power once the grade gets to be over 8-9% and you are already in the little cog. Edited April 26Apr 26 by TMoney Report
May 3May 3 comment_969426 Signed up for my first (metric) century! I am a little worried about all the climbing, but it is split up into four climbs and a bunch of rollers, none of which are beyond my ability. Should be fun to train for. @Voltron want to come join? https://marincentury.com Report
May 3May 3 comment_969429 It sounds like too much for my old body but I will be out of state then anyway. Good luck with the training and have a great time riding in West Marin. Report

May 9May 9 comment_969526 Dipping in to the structured workouts on Zwift. What a cool tool. I like how they have little drills built in like working on different cadences or emphasizing different parts of the pedal stroke. Erg mode is also nice to get a feel for what it feels like to hold steady power, something I'm not that good at yet. I'm glad I didn't start out with this and just rode the bike for months, but I can only see it benefitting my outdoor rides. Report
