  • First day in two months the high has been below 55 and first day in almost 3 its snowed.  Hopefully this bad luck isn't a sign of how things will go with the new toy i just took delivery of..

  • I learned a ton and had a blast at my Driver's Academy class on Saturday. There were 24 students, about 16 of the 24 were teens and young-twenty-somethings and the other 8 of us were older drivers. Fo

Isle of Man is all balls....balls of steel.  Motorcyclists are the most untethered.  They lose someone every year.  Some of the most exciting racing there is!

I'm surprised at how exposed some of the crowds are – it might be unlikely, but I'd want to be behind something solid near the corners at least.

That's sort of a defining characteristic of the Isle of Man.  But I'm with you, choose your where you spectate from carefully.  The bikes top 200mph on the course and as you saw in that video, cars top 170.  Just insane for public roads.

It is not uncommon for spectators to be struck there.

Definitely a bucket list event.  24 Hours of LeMans night racing....most definitely bucket list.  Watching the sun come up at the event is something I need to experience before the party is over...

Made it out to a private track rental last night at Houston Raceway Park.  The outfit always does a nice job.  Only thing I missed was the catering...no no given the current situation.

My son shot a vid of my first pass.  I'm in the Jeep Trackhawk running against a Redeye.  It was hot and humid...density altitude started at north of 2900ft, but I had a blast all the same.

"In this corner, one thousand of the best German engineers ever assembled, with computers bigger than your garage using computational fluid dynamics and finite-element analysis to create the greatest and most powerful customer race car in the world - the 911 GT2 RS Cluuuuuubsport! And in this corner, a guy from five miles away who went down the street to his dad’s garage and built a car with him. Are you ready to rummmmmbbbbbblllleeeeeee?????"

Fun story.

Any racing post pandemic has been such a treat. I did not appreciate how much I needed it until the first pass...

Is Jeff gonna get one of those 3d printers?

Inconel is the real deal.  I'm big on using it on seriously boosted cars' exhaust valves.  Was good to me despite the mile long beatings.

Could be a rough summer for folks looking to buy a car.

I've been reading about this for a while now.  Saw a figure quoted that must be stale given it's a few months old...over 150K vehicles not produced due to the chip shortages.

It will be interesting to see how it normalizes.  Boom / bust cycles are tough but a pretty good rule of thumb...

Yeah, I've been hearing rumors and seeing bits here and there about it but this is the first time I heard/read about an actual shut down. Maybe just as interesting is the line in there about Ford having to sell F150s without certain features/modules to conserve chips.  Crazy days.

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2021/apr/22/jaguar-land-rover-to-suspend-work-at-major-uk-car-plants-amid-computer-chip-shortage

"Now shortages are causing carmakers to scramble to save semiconductors. The French brand Peugeot, owned by Stellantis, this week said it had replaced newer digital speedometers with analogue versions on its 308 line."

Yeah, my order seems to be taking a long time to get scheduled for build and delivery.

I assume they will just shut down the cheap trucks so they can still keep making the most expensive ones. Or at least I hope. Need that 7.2kw generator to power some remote music setups for the 4th of July festival.

Trucks these days are pretty impressive.  A lot of luxury and great tech.  They charge for it, but the market seems to drink it up.

Miss my RAM 1500...  Parking it less so.

Looks like the chips did not impact my order. Mine will be here in two weeks, about a month and a half earlier than I expected.

Was going to say "Congrat!" but then I remembered what you got, and I was reminded that I should take a nap, since the last time I saw it it bored me to sleep. But, at least you have your power for your party, so that's good, I guess.

Probably spoke too soon.  The Ford tracking site is now updating for people and those with trucks built in March that have been sitting in a parking lot ever since are getting delivery dates of August.  Looks like might need to go choose something else new to buy as the chips are catching up.  My delivery will probably be pushed to 2022 at this rate.

Not sure which news you are referring to, but why would I want one of those hooptys?
