May 23, 200719 yr Author Oh damn you can get an Ergo2 for under $200...now I really want to hear one.
May 23, 200719 yr Oh damn you can get an Ergo2 for under $200...now I really want to hear one. FYI , United Home Audio Products is the only US dealer I know for Ergo headphones. I don't know exactly how much a new pair costs, though, since I bought mine used.
May 24, 200719 yr Cheap: KSC75 KSC35 eH150 PortaPro Mid-Fi/Entry Level: eH350 SR60 DT250 Higher Mid-Fi: HD580 K271S K340 That's all I can think of <$200.
May 24, 200719 yr Koss - KSC75, Sportapro, PortaPro, etc. Alessandro MS-1 Grado (lower-end as it is priced in the USA) Sennheiser PX-100
May 24, 200719 yr K340 While this used to be true it certainly doesn't seem like it lately. I can't believe that there's currently someone asking $280 for a stock pair on Head-Fi, and that's after a couple price drops.
May 24, 200719 yr Yeah, the K340 price hike really pisses me off... and I know that I am largely to blame for it, which makes it worse.
May 24, 200719 yr Yeah, the K340 price hike really pisses me off... and I know that I am largely to blame for it, which makes it worse. why? you've got a pair. and even if you need another cost averaging. but before you opened the floodgates you should have bought at least a back-up pair.
May 24, 200719 yr why? you've got a pair. and even if you need another cost averaging. but before you opened the floodgates you should have bought at least a back-up pair. I bet jjcha is feeling that way about the VTGs at this point, too.
May 25, 200719 yr for me its the Senn hd600's I picked up used and in mint cond.. thats like my only headphone i actually listen to all the time
May 25, 200719 yr While this used to be true it certainly doesn't seem like it lately. I can't believe that there's currently someone asking $280 for a stock pair on Head-Fi, and that's after a couple price drops. $280? I thought they were still going for ~200. There's also a scam pair on eBay going for $40 right now.
May 25, 200719 yr for me its the Senn hd600's I picked up used and in mint cond.. thats like my only headphone i actually listen to all the time This really bugs me... all those lovely grados and a stinkin' sennheiser gets more time on your head!
May 25, 200719 yr $280? I thought they were still going for ~200. There's also a scam pair on eBay going for $40 right now. Well the same guy who has the stock pair listed for $250 (he's dropped the price again) also has a modded pair that are sale pending for $400. Jebus, recabled with starquad and a mini plug doesn't add value to a headphone in my book.
May 25, 200719 yr sr225 with bowl pads is painful. They need flat pads. Biggie. All depends man. I find the bowls quite comfy and they hold onto my head better than the flats. That said, I like to have a pair of either around, since there is no question both pads add a different flavour.
May 25, 200719 yr sometimes i feel like the only person who doesn't mind tons of treble from headphones like beyers, grados, and akgs.
July 18, 200718 yr Author I have to add the MS-1 to the list, quite possibly eclipsing the SR-60. They sound great with metal, rock, and jazz. And not surprisingly scale well with better amps.
July 18, 200718 yr I haven't heard anything between the SR60 and SR225, but both are great for their price. <$100, I'd say SR60, <$200, SR225 or HD580.
July 21, 200718 yr Koss A250 Sr225 HD580 Welcome back. The A250 is great. I wonder if it's still possible to find one of these. Hmm....
August 25, 200718 yr K340 I know I paid slightly over $200 for these, but they can be had for less, and these are remarkable headphones, at least when powered by the Dynahi! Very alive, and rich, and musical. This can has made me very interested in the higher echelon of electrostats.
August 28, 200718 yr Author I heard the HD580 w/ HD600 grills and Cardas cable on Headroom's balanced Desktop amp, and that setup was dynamite! I think it's best if someone more knowledgeable mentions the modules used, but for ~ $1800 (amp, headphones, cable) all you need is your own digital source that was a pretty damn nice rig. If the Sennheisers are your favorite (or reference) headphones I would seriously give that amp/DAC combo some thought.
August 28, 200718 yr Author Oh yes and the HD580 with HD600 grills looks a million times better than the plastic ones. It actually looks like a serious headphone.
