Gang, the iPad Mini was a complete success.  He was so happy.  Thanks for the guidance!

Easily avoided by just using the appropriate case made by Apple. Not sure why anyone would do otherwise.

The iPad USB was 16/48 limited. Did things change with a firmware update or the iPad 2? Haven't heard that, but...

Currently using the free squeezebox iPad app. It's ok, very barebones, but at times it gets stuck, otherwise it's fine.

What does ioeng or squeeezepad offer over the free app?

In my case they work. Default app never connects after correctly typing password. From what I can tell from screenshots iPeng has greater functionality over Logitechs app and Squeezepad doesn't look like it was designed for Red Hat 1.0.

I've got both ipeng and squeezpad. I like ipeng better (ease of functionality) but it seems to hang up sometimes and get a bit confused. Squeezpad is rock solid, but it's a bit boring. I thought the idea of making my iPad into a remote was a bit silly at first ... now I couldn't live without having one of them.

Well, V-Link arrived today.

With an iPad 1 + camera kit + powered USB hub (necessary for draw) + Musical Fidelity V-Link + Lavry DA10 I can confirm you can import 24 bit files up to 192 and output at least 24/96 (and 88.2).

Not the most practical rig, but may be useful for some (and at meets).

EDIT: Did more testing. It's complicated onboard.

I swear this thing wasn't dropped. I have no idea what happened. You can still hold it were it disappears, so not even sure when it did show up. Was reading for half an hour, then clicked on a YouTube vid and... WTF?

On the plus side its owned by work.

Right...you know you were using the wrong case and it fell out and dented itself on a corner. Yup.

Still seems to work fine. Just makes everyone's posts appear angry.

I've been informed by my girlfriend I fell asleep last night and then when my wrist weakened enough, introduced the iPad to my head. This has happened enough that I didn't even think of it, but do remember a little painAWAKE! moment. No bruises and with a TPU cover covering the edges (for the correct model), I still wonder if it could be something else? Anyway, that's all the detective work has dug up. Beware in-bed use for now.

Yep, bed is dangerous for iPads, where they fall prey to weakened wrists and slippery night stands. Wait a sec, I kinda like the way that sounds.

Nice. And just imagine if they had flash.

Then they could be slower, less reliable, and have shorter battery life, just like the tablets no one is buying!

^^^ this!

I doubt flash uses much more battery life than most of the useless apps and games people use on their iOS devices. At least, Apple could offer the option to turn on Flash with a warning on the effects of doing so. The only reason Apple doesn't offer flash is because they want to sell more apps and force people to pay for videos instead of streaming whatever they want for free.

I don't ever load those apps you're complaining about and then leave them running on an endless loop. But leave a web browser open on a page filled with flash ads and watch your battery drain. As far as I can tell, flash is still 90% porn and advertising. I'm ok with not having those on my ipad.
