July 30, 201213 yr I may have a couple. Will check tonight. You're welcome to a couple if I have them.
July 31, 201213 yr I may have a couple. Will check tonight. You're welcome to a couple if I have them. Thank you sir. That'd be greatly appreciated. I'll also look into the 6A ones.
August 30, 201213 yr It might be that I'm drunk again but using two DMM's for biasing/DC hunting is SOOO much better.
September 10, 201213 yr I might case up the damn thing in the following week if I manage to CAD draw the panels- however one niggle remains. I know that some of you are using relay based stepped attenuators- do you connect the ground (I prefer the term- common wire) of the controller board somewhere? I get 50Hz hum if I don't connect it to the PSU common wire. Btw, I keep hearing that the signal common wire should be separated from safety or power grounds. More than one way of skinning a cat?
September 10, 201213 yr Separating the ground makes no sense to me and will likely only cause issues. Having a ground loop breaker on the earth makes sense for a commercial product but there are no problems here with it all star wired together.
November 8, 201213 yr I bought 50 pairs of 2sj74 and 2sk170 from bdent. I got 11 matched quads within 0.2mA. I still have 28 of 2sj74s left. I'm wondering if anyone has extra 2sk170s with idss between 6.5mA and 7.8mA. I only need 10 matched quad sets. I'm going to sell the extra sets for $10/each shipped ConUS with postage (that's if I'm able to get those 170s for reasonable price.) Drop me a PM if you can help. Thanks.
November 12, 201213 yr does anyone know if FETAudio is legit? They are based in HK. They are selling matched 170/74 at the same price as AMB (of course shipping is a lot higher for US.)
November 13, 201213 yr FETAudio is legit. I've bought from Spencer on a couple occasions. Great communication and fast shipping (well, at least as fast as it can come from Hong Kong). The parts appear to be exactly as they are advertised. You can get additional references over on DIYAudio. Lot's of threads on the topic. Spencer posts there as well, however, PM's or the sales link (hotmail account) on FETAudio work best for getting ahold of him.
November 18, 201213 yr Which is real and which is fake? Or are boith real? Edited November 18, 201213 yr by Victor Chew
November 20, 201213 yr The one from bdent is real the one from MCM is not. The datasheet has specificly drawn out the package, but apparently the forger decided that all TO-126 look alike so didn't bother with with it. The hfe is actually within the specified range, but breakdown voltage isn't. Don't have equipments to test other parameters. Could've definately fooled me if they faked the package correctly...
November 26, 201213 yr Does anyone have a suggestion for high voltage relays for use on the output of an electro-static amp?
November 27, 201213 yr The only ones I have come across are from TE connectivity: http://relays.te.com/kilovac/ I know digikey stocks some of them but they are extremely expensive - http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?k=kilovac&vendor=0&mnonly=0&newproducts=0&ptm=0&fid=0&quantity=0&PV1411=148&PV1411=150&PV1411=149&PV1411=103&PV1411=147&PV1411=142&PV1411=151
November 27, 201213 yr Stax have used the same Omron relay since the 90's with no issues I've heard of.
November 27, 201213 yr Author Does anyone have a suggestion for high voltage relays for use on the output of an electro-static amp? I don't have a clue, but I like the fact that you're asking.
December 4, 201213 yr Does anyone know of a diy solution to power conditioning? The reason I ask is that the power where I live is not very consistent. Line voltage varies from115v-125v and I don't know if there is ever an actual 60hz cycle going on. I would like to build something that I could have a constant and reliable voltage coming out of for my audio gear. I did not think that it made that much difference but when it starts to fluctuate my dac acts a little weird and loses lock and my cd transport does not read the toc. It is very annoying and I want to fix the problem without having to buy one of the $4K units I see advertised in the magazines. Can anyone help with this? Edited December 4, 201213 yr by c12mech
December 4, 201213 yr It sounds like you are looking for an active voltage regulator. I'm not immediately aware of any DIY solutions. But a few years back I got recommended an AVR by Perma Power and does exactly what you're looking for. Nice and cheap for a used one if you look around.
December 5, 201213 yr Thanks for that information. An AVR is exactly what I am looking for. I just could not remember the proper name for it.
December 6, 201213 yr Anyone know if the Goldpoint/Elma attenuators are still built well? Looking at the mono Mini-V.
December 6, 201213 yr I just picked one up that was used to play around with in a circuit and it seems to be nicer than the DACTs I've used. I have yet another DACT that is going noisy on me, so it will likely be my last.
December 6, 201213 yr Sweet, thanks Marc. I think I have them in the BH and KGSS, very nice precise positions. By comparison the DACTs don't feel as nice. Wanted to make sure Elma were still making good stuff.
