CHROMA MD1

If I'd known the LCD-2s and these were at the AVIC show, I might have made more of an effort to go.

The Chroma MD1 sucked IMHO.

The LCD-2 was another story entirely!

Regardless of what Skylab may think, I for one thought it sounded Grado like.

I thought it sounded pretty damn far from Grado-like - it was very laid back, warm and smooth. Sounded way more like a 650 than a Grado to my ears (and I thought sounded very nice). Unfortunately, build quality and aesthetics were crappy, even for a pre-production prototype (I'm not sure how much more impressive the production photos look to me) - certainly not befitting a $1K+ headphone...

Steve is right, they sucked. Mids and bass were warm and plentiful, but there was no top end and the overall sound was syrupy. Can't say that they were Grado like and also would not agree they were HD650-like. Stick with suck, that is easier.

Top-end was definitely a bit recessed and the headphone was clearly voiced pretty far to the warm side of things, but I didn't get the sense that its overall resolution suffered from either of these things. We'll have to wait to hear from the one person who actually buys a pair and listens to the headphones not at the meet (if this mythical creature ever comes into existence).

Failing to resolve effectively any top end seems to be a failure of resolution.

Darn, if I had known a pair was going to be there I definitely would have listened. I made sure to listen to some GS1000s and PS1000s and there are no words to describe how horrid they sound...

Not even "rubbery"? I thought that was your favorite one.

earrapeish?

Rubbery is my favorite one for the 404LE. Listened to it on the T2 and it's still there.

earrapeish?

Yeah, something like that.:D

That's pretty much how the PS1000 made me feel when I had a listen (and what I remember of the GS1000) - a pillow on a prison bed with a crayon face drawn on it*

*funny analogy not my own

And yet it won 'best of show' for some online rag.

I was in Tylls room when the MD1 was in the test box. I asked about the TightAnus and what happened to it. Reception was muffled. I guess the guys there work for Rudi or something.

I didn't even bother listening to it.

Well in my book the TightAnus gets the award for the jankiest phone of the show. Not sure if anybody would purchase this thing at $1000

I was there when he was measuring it. Yes the guys were present. Tyll being Tyll of coarse minced no words, but he did let them down somewhat softly. They did measure very similar to Grados.

FACT: I did not listen to them.

Where were these phones located? I'm asking as neither Rudistor nor any of his US representatives registered as vendors. :chair:

Perhaps he'll now make the electrostatic headphones named in my honor?

You don't think he will stick with the naming scheme and call this one Tit Anus MD2?
