Wild and Crazy Go Nuts!

  1. Started by Voltron,

    Happy 25th! Cheers

  2. Started by thrice,

I'm looking to read more science fiction. I've read the Dune series as well as some Clive Barker (Imajica...etc.) but I'd like to get into more of the classics and also modern writers as well. Obvious beginnings would be Orson Scott Card, Neal Stephenson, Issac Asimov (no, I haven't read anything by Assimov... I know, I'm a bad geek)... Philip K Dick, ...etc. So what Science Fiction should I read and what modern authors/series do people recommend? What are your essential books? Cheers, thrice

  3. Started by cetoole,

I am flying down to Montgomery, AL tomorrow to drive my grandparents up to Boston (well technically, Reading) MA, and will be staying there for a few days before heading home. The main point of this trip is to get my grandparents to my Uncle and new Aunt's house, and to see my new (about two week old) cousin, but there will definitely be some time to see other things in the area. Only been to Boston once before for a few days, so any suggestions are appreciated.

I'm not sure if Catcher has been made into a movie - yet. certainly, as an immensely popular work for near 6 decades there are those that would be chomping at the bit to do so. and since i can't find a more appropriate forum here goes: J.D. I'm thinking about getting one of these to gain better access to my attic: Products The largest model is 4' x 6' and lifts up to 750 pounds. Cost is $2,595 plus shipping, so nearly $3k to Florida. Then the on-shipping to Cayman and 20% import duty when it gets here. Then paying someone to prepare the opening, do the install, and make it all look finished. Probably $5k or more before all is said and done. But that would allow me to: 1) Get most of the junk in my attic out of there, much of which is my former fiancee's accumulated possessions from living in Cayman for 17 years prior to moving to the US almost 10 years ago. She's shown zero interest in any of i…

  10. I think people here at Head-Case should know that Twisted Pear Audio is raising funds to support Doctors Without Borders relief efforts in Haiti after the earthquake. There is a prize, to be precise a complete Buffalo II kit! http://www.twistedpearaudio.com/news.aspx Best regards, Jose Luis

  14. The wife and I have a trip scheduled to NYC Feb. 12-15 as I don't have school that Monday. I know we are definitely going to see some Broadway show but other than that we are pretty open. Not sure yet where we are staying. Figured I would throw it out there as there is a pretty good NY contingent here.

Well, my trusty 1994 Corolla decided it couldn't face 2010 and died on 12/31. Thus begins a new tradition - the annual NYE walk. Transmission costs (waiting on estimate) will likely make stop repairs so I'm investigating newish car options. While I was expecting to pick up something used, with the current state of the auto industry, cash backs, lines disappearing, etc. began to consider a 2009/2010 Pontiac G3 (the once Vibe). The warranty is a big pull too. Basically, want a smallish car for city parking, good gas mileage for work commutes (40 miles each way - 2-3 times a week, when car is most used) and as I park on the street in San Francisco, something I wouldn't w…

  17. Started by Wmcmanus,

About 11 years ago as best I recall, I had to buy a pair of crutches and use them for several weeks because of a severely sprained ankle. Fast forward to tonight when I was on Skype chatting with my former fiancee's daughter who is getting married this summer and has been pestering me of late to "sponsor" one thing or another in connection to her wedding (someone is sponsoring her bridal shower, someone else her flowers at the wedding, someone else the photographer, etc.) and suddenly I've been more like her real dad than the man himself. I told her that I'd sponsor the green beans, but she claims they're not included on the menu. I'll probably get stuck with the e…

  18. This was news to me. Why not to accept "gifts" on paypal when selling items on paypal - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio Note that all it took to have the transaction flagged was the inclusion of an address in the comments section. I'm not surprised that they're cracking down on this, given that they don't collect fees on gifts.
