I'm relatively new here, but have been doing a lot of research over the past several days or so on the listening experience for my PC. I'm planning on buying the Sound Blaster Z card and am looking for a great pair of cans to round out my experience. My budget is $200 and under, and I will primarily use them for gaming, but I'd also like to listen to music as well from time to time. I do some FPS gaming but it's mostly Star Wars: Old Republic- or Neverwinter-type games. Soundstage, imaging and bass are particularly important to me. Imaging for obvious reasons, gotta know where shots are coming from, soundstage I think goes along with this, and bass because I love good exp…

The SR-80 was originally bundled with the SRD-4 (Electret Adaptor). Can the Electret phones only be connected to a SRD-4 or to any adaptor/amp? The reason I ask is because I have a SRD 6 / SR-5 combo and and would like to add a SR-80 to it.

Lots of folks put HF-1 drivers and 325i drivers into custom turned wood enclosures. Anyone ever do this with RS-1 drivers? Would be expensive, since essentially you would have to purchase an RS-1 just to cut the drivers out of the already-attractive wooden enclosure. But people have done stranger things in this hobby. Anyway, I'm just curious as to how RS-1 drivers would sound in a deeper wooden enclosure.

Hi all, First post here! Looking for a little advice. I'm in the market for two sets of headphones, one for while I'm on my motorcycle, and one for while I'm at the gym. I don't have a crazy budget, and I guess I'd like to keep each pair under the 80 dollar-ish range. That cash limit isn't SUPER strict, so I'll move around a little. I understand because of my other desires I'll be sacrificing some sound quality/build quality. I'll be connecting to a latest model iPhone, so bluetooth wireless needed for both sets. Audio controls on the set are a must (Not necessarily a mic though, if its a really good set.) Another major consideration: My ears are w…

Grado SR-60. Still one of my favorite headphones. Hella uncomfortable when new. Works well out of a DAP (won't kill the battery). Sennheiser HD580 Nice all around headphones, also great for movies. Sound great with simple amps (cmoy, Govibe, etc). If I was ever in a major financial rut I could probably sell everything for just those two.

Hello, my questions are about the sennheiser HD 598's. Firstly, how is the build quality on them and secondly, what is the size of the driver units? The sennheiser HD 598 seems to be becoming cheaper and I think I will grab myself a pair, but I want to know about the build quality first.

Hey y'all, I wonder if you can help me out with a question. I love the way my Beyer DT990s (2005, 250 ohm) sound, especially for acoustic music. I find them a bit fatiguing when I listen to metal though, and I suspect this is due to their (according to my ears) somewhat enhanced sparkle in the treble region. My present amp is just the headphone out in my NAD av receiver - nothing fancy, but many people seem to like the headphone outs from NAD. For a source, I use either the NAD T534 multiplayer or the Playstation 1. So, what do I need - proper amplification or a different headphone? Or different source? I am kind of new at this hobby, and have not been able t…

I've been thinking of picking up a pair of closed headphones again. I used to own the Beyer DT250-250 a long time ago based on Headroom's ancient recommendation and liked them. Tried the AKG K271S when it first came out and liked the midrange but disliked the strange quality of what bass there was (no impact at all). Haven't really been following closed cans since. There's a thread on Head Case about closed cans but it's somewhat dated. It looks like the HD25-1 II was the flavor of the month on the other site for a while and has a persistent following. I listened to this at the local dealer out of a NAD integrated (not the greatest audition, obviously) and felt that the b…

Hey guys, I'm planning on designing some leather Grado pads but I would like to get some suggestions as to whether people would prefer the pads being more bowl shaped or GS1000 pad shaped. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks

Ultrasone Edition 10 Headphones are $2700! - I4U News Ultrasone Offers First Open Back Headphone - Gearlog [H]ard|OCP - $2,750 Headphones Read the comments thread if you have a little time. Screenshots | [H]ard|OCP ^^ Large, sexy picture. It's a big enough picture I didn't do IMG code in case it broke H-scrolls. Google it. It's all over the Internet. I know the brand has a fairly good reputation but that's about it. That kind of price tag makes me want to run and hide under my bed. So which of you brave souls are going to take the plunge on these?

In the "Measurements" thread, everyone could see that top-tier electrostatic and isodynamic headphones are more similar than different, having similar FR, CSD, square wave and impulse responces, isodynamics sometimes having better measured parameters. However, their sound is not the same. I have thought of 3 moments that seem to make difference between them. I must warn everyone from the start that I'm no specialist in these areas and everything below is wild speculation. 1) Air resistance and open area. ES drivers use very thin stator plates with high open area - more than 50%, it seems. There is minimum amount of trapped air and minimum stored energy. Isodynami…

Greetings all. Need suggestions for new headphones to look into with the following criteria. - Under $80 - Decent sound - Decent construction, ie. able to take some in bag abuse - Closed design - Not insanely large I'm a big fan of Grado's and use them at home, but the open design doesnt work well in a loud train. In ear plugs, though light, tend to die the good death in my bag. Cheers - Thanks in advance

I saw these UE 10s on eBay two days ago. And thought if i could have UE in Irvine, about 35 minutes from my house, take my ear impressions then they could make customs to perfectly fit my ears and this might be a good deal. so i called UE customer service and to my surprise UE said no can do. a few hours later i called back and asked, if i am an original UE10 owner and two or three years later my ear canal changes as a result of wearing them, age, or gaining or losing weight would UE recast in the event they no longer provided a secure fit. again, the UE rep said no. she explained the recasting process could possibly damage the drivers. i am still a bit surprised-…
