Well I'm not anywhere near the point that I *really* need to be making a decision but I have a source for the stylus and have thought about ordering a few to hold me for quite a while. http://www.lpgear.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LG&Product_Code=ATSAT0160ML But, I'm still not sure. The cartridge itself is kind of old and the metal around the top is a little corroded. It sounds GREAT though and this is why I haven't wanted to ditch it. Getting a replacement for $80ish is way better than a new cartridge every time. My table is a Denon DP-59L, their top of the line direct drive from 1984. The tonearm isn't super special but I don't have …

Good news! My new turntable supposedly shipped yesterday. It?s usually one day from NJ to Boston, so it should be here today. I?ve also confirmed that the Ginko Dust Cover and my VPI-16.5 Record cleaning machine should also show up by the end of this week. http://www.vpiindustries.com/products_ssm.htm And http://www.vpiindustries.com/product_supplatter.htm Once set up and playing I?ll be sure to take pictures and post a little info. Damn! I?m so excited.

Hello crew, I am completely ignorant to the whole laptop/computer as source thing, so could use your help. I am looking for something to play music from my laptop wirelessly through my Zana. The Zana has 3 inputs with one being sourced from the Meridian, so I figured I could use another source. I am pretty much on my laptop all the time, would be nice to source some music from here as well. Nothing too crazy or expensive, just sound decent enough, the cheaper the better, so no modwrighted or APL modded transporters and what not. Also, I could probably get some ideas for software programs that can play music where I can bypass the volume control on my laptop, that could…

I'm not sure if you guys have been following the recent developments, but there has been talk of an "enhancement". Well, I'm here to spill the beans to give you guys the heads up, in case any of you are in the market for a new DAC. Currently there is a "silent" promotion going on, which means all new D02 orders placed will actually be for the D02A. For $412 plus shipping you'll get the D02A with external battery power supply and matching chassis, until the first batch ships, then it'll jump to $499-$549 for the D02A and an additional $150 for the external battery power supply. Yup, it'll be a 2 box design with the second housing the battery and charger. But here's w…

Yes another USB converter.... I have an easy one for you: do these USB converters are that truly different from each other? I mean are they realy on different levels if you compare the ones you can find used like the affordable RedWine Audio to the crazy expensive Empirical stuff? I like the Canto presentation but at $500 (US) this need to be good. Thanks in advance. Amicalement

I am a complete noob at this. I have been lurking the forum, but I am confused. Most of the discussion is way over my head. My goal is to get a reasonably nice setup to use while on my exercise bike at home. I think I have decided on a pair of etymotic ER-4P In Ear Monitors because I need the isolation, the bike is very noisy. (see link http://www.head-case.org/index.php?topic=1097.0) I don't have a clue what to use for a source, or an amp. I am presently using an older dvd player with a headphone jack, but it won't play anything but a pressed disc, no CD-R's. My budget for a source and amp is pretty low, maybe $300, but less is better. I am reasonably computer lite…

From every possible review or posts I could find, regarding these two, I think more getting Prima CDP. Seems that M192 having a bit to smooth/laid back kind of sound, which isn't that ideal for music like TRANCE&ROCK, while Prima, even with smooth touch, keeps the dynamics&energy very well. The most 3 genres I listen to it are: JAZZ, ROCK & TRANCE/CLUB, sometimes AMBIENT/LOUNGE About the rest, sonically I mean, they seems to be very close to each other, but once again, from info I could find. About the costs, M192 cost more than Prima, but that's understandable. THX

Well my Northstar M192 MKII arrived today, took a little while to start using it though as I was having problems with my Squeezebox. So for now I'm using it with the EMU 0404 USB via foobar and ASIO output. I'm using the rca outputs till my new balanced cables from Nate arrive . I'll post pics later but here's some early impressions: detail retrival is good resolution and extension are very good tonality seems pretty accurate soundstage (especially depth) are excellent That's about it for now I'll add more as time goes on. Hi-rez pics here 1280x1024 pics are attached below

Has anybody heard this player? Their website is a bit messy and old-school, but it sounds like an interesting Redbook source, for the low, low price of $10,950 http://www.novaphysicsgroup.com I found out about it from doing a bit of research on Melos Audio - these are the same guys, I think...

HF thread here This guy's review and measurements here I'm not about to comment on the legitimacy of the measurements, but the uDAC-2 is apparently pretty shitty. NuForce seems to agree but not really care that it's shitty. John Atkinson measured a NuForce CD player, and it was also real shitty. This doesn't speak of the entire NuForce lineup, but I do find it amusing considering the relative popularity of that brand over thar. Can I safely conclude that HF has terrible taste in everything?

See Olive just released a lower priced model today. If the O3HD is like the OH4D (no O3HD page up yet) it will have a digital input too. $1K and DAC duty makes this a bit more interesting. Still seems a bit cumbersome to have another library for other devices (iPod, etc.), but curious if any here have experience with their previous models?

This looks to be a very nice DAC. He offers a blank boards with smd chips already soldered on if you want to put your own together. I'm considering putting one together, but I think I'd have to sell the Opus to do it, and I don't want to do that You can see the DAC at http://www.ecdesigns.nl/dacs/di16/di16.html

Will someone with familiarity in the subject area please break down the difference(s) between these three? I was going to just get the 970, but it doesn't have the Faroudja chipset -- how important is this? Someone on another forum said the 981 is supposed to be a replacement for the 971, but takes away the Faroudja chipset (I think he meant the 970, because the 981 explicitly has the Faroudja chipset). This is what I get: 970 -- entry level 971 -- Faroudja chipset 981 -- 1080p Or are there other important differences? I will be using it with this, amongst other things. I am interested in sound, especially SACD and DVD-A, as I can always use an outboard DAC …

Hooray, they let me into the early adoption program. Should have it next week. Looks like it'll be a very nice player for folks like me with a mainly HT orientation and potentially a pretty decent transport for those with higher-rez audio aspirations, too. Let's wank about it right here!

Oppo BDP-93 Networking Universal Blu-ray Player — Reviews and News from Audioholics There's a lot more to this article including pretty pictures so just click on the link. This is a no brainer for me. It's coming out around November of this year. I'll be preordering first chance I get. The 80 is discontinued. I'll be surprised if they discontinue the 83s vs logical price drops. That's the same video processor, probably slightly refined, that the now completely obsolete $2000 Pioneer 09FD has. I wouldn't be surprised if that's a new chip. ' There WILL be an SE variant to this new 93 well into 2011 sometime. I ordered an 83 direct from Oppo ba…

I've finally accumulated enough SACD and DVD-A titles that both of these players are cheap enough to probably warrant a purchase. A used 2900 on Audiogon is roughly $200. And there are so many Oppo models I don't know which are the good ones. Video playback doesn't matter, it won't be used. Or any other options in the $200 range that I didn't think of. I like a slightly warmer sound, not the stereotypical "digital playback", so from reading this is sort of pushing me towards the Denons. Modding capability is a plus since I wouldn't be opposed to that in the future. Basically I'm tired of spending so long figuring out the copy protection on DVD-A discs tearing my hair o…

I was advertising for a used Zhalou with a zap filter discrete output stage on head-fi. I received this pm from Ori at Oritek .... Perhaps this would do the trick for you... I'm offering a modded Zhaolu D2.5A with a discrete output stage. In my opinion it has several advantages over the Zapfilter. We can talk about that if you have an interest in purchasing the unit. The price is $475 plus shipping. A second set of RCA outputs is $40 extra. I'm also offering now a discrete headphone amplifier option for $254 extra. It will drive any dynamic headphones with the possible exception of the AKG K-1000. I've tried a K340 and it is LOUD and clear! In addition, this hea…
