Just curious which version do you prefer. I've put in the download two versions of the title track 'Aqualung' by Jethro Tull, both files in lossless format. So has anyone been following the Mahler thread on Head-Fi -- someone want to synopsize? I want to get a decent Mahler boxset, such as the Klaus Tennstedt from EMI Classics or something. I realize people prefer individual symphonies, but is there any mention of a decent complete symphonies cycle? Or does someone have their own opinion that they would want to share with me? Performance is more important than fidelity, but if it's too bad, let me know -- I don't want any of these 2kHz bandwidth historical recordings.

As I was casually listening to some music tonight, my choice of CD brought a rush of memory back to me that inspired me to ask this question. What is the most memorable, striking moment you've had while at a concert, seeing a live performance? For me it was at an outdoor theater that no longer exists - Poplar Creek in the NW Chicago burbs. We had gone to see King Crimson there on the tour they did supporting the Beat album. But there were mega intense thunderstorms that day and the show was rained out. It was a nice experience. Overall, the music was not tear-inducing, but there were a few favourite sections of mine, including some arias by the tenor, who had a wonderful voice. The chorus was a bit piercing. I've always been sensitive to soprano ranges, so a deafening array of sopranos was bound to hurt my ears. Overall, it can get deafening, really quick. The position where you sit affects the music (expensive tickets, etc), and the performance you get may not be cherry picked, like a recording is. All improvised. It's pretty stupid, but it does get better as it goes. The highlights are probably Merlin, Godzilla, For Pluto, Everyone's Sleeping... And You Should Be Too, and Lazy Frog. But really they're all great.

I was wondering if anyone here had any experiences with RVG Blue Note remasters? I've been looking to re-acquire some Bud Powell recordings and RVG remasters popped up doing the search. I vaguely remember someone commenting on it here in the past, but "RVG" was too short for the forum software to search.

It's two 180 gram 33.33 rpm disks - beautiful, dead flat, silent, excellent sounding pressings, in proper audiophile plastic-lined inner sleeves (Somehow, when an album costs the best part of fifty bucks, I think a Nitty Gritty sleeve is in order. The Tape Project, wherein they make dubs off the original master tapes with custom built gear and you get albums on 15ips 1/4" half track stereo tape. Reel to reel tape, as close to the master tape as you'll ever get without owning the actual master tape. The catalog is pretty limited, unfortunately.

And some stores will have quite a few special events. Amoeba in Hollywood is giving away 250 wristbands to see Smashing Pumpkins perform on RSD if you preorder their boxset. Slash will be signing his new album. Salzer's in Ventura will be having some bands play and Coheed & Cambria will be doing a signing. Looks like quite a bit of good fun.

I just bought Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" from HD Tracks. It is supposedly 24/96, but with some of the recent hubbub about what is really going on inside the tracks, I downloaded Audacity and ran a Spectrum Analysis on "Never Going Back Again." The screenshot is attached. I don't know how to read these things. Can someone let me know what, if anything, can be seen here? EDIT: Added Plot Spectrum.
