I'm in the market for a new power amp, preferrably something with 300+ Watts into 4ohm. I've been considering picking up a used Rotel RB-1090 it would certainly fit the bill powerwise. But I keep seeing all the various "Class D" type amps and their size and weight make them intruiging options. Out of the Class D amps the ones that caught my interest the most are ones based on the ICE Power modules (think the new belcanto amps) and the Hypex UCD Modules (think CIAudio amps). Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm looking into a NAD 325BEE, and I'd like to know if it can output enough power to my speakers. My speakers are some vintage AKAI's with 8 ohm impedence and 100Wpeak. I see here: NAD Electronics :: C325BEE Stereo Integrated Amplifier that the NAD 325BEE is rated for 110W power, but only 50W continuously? What does this mean?

Will its been a year with the Harbeths. (and Manley amps) Truly one of the most enjoyable years listening to music I have had. I've probably bought more records since getting the Harbeths than any time prior. It took a couple months to really appreciate what they do, which is recreate recordings in a way few other speakers I have heard can. They (my system in general) walks the fine line of speed & resolution and warmth and musical about as good as I have heard. They play really big and transparent. I've listened to them from 3' away up 13' feet and they sound great at either distance. My goal is to someday own the 40.1s driven by BAT VK-150se amps. But if i stay wi…

From another thread: How about speaker amps, are there any speaker amps that follow this design? How about preamps? Is there a corresponding solid state design? Perhaps with MOSFETs?

I'm using a Trends TA-10.1 right now and to me it's kind of bright and metallic without the Opera preamp in front of it. Not a great match for either my speakers or my Sigmas. I'm looking for an amp with balanced sound (can be on the warm side) that's preferably somewhat small and not too expensive, but if it's small and awesome I can swing a little more for it. But not CIAudio D-100 more (if only).

I've been having intermittent issues with my Moth Audio system that I was blaming on the amp until I recently discovered that one of them Cicada drivers is dead. Doug helped me troubleshoot and I found no short in the driver but it reads zero ohms. The other one shows 12 ohms as it should. Doug mentioned that someone much more skilled than I would be able to test it out more thoroughly, but I am not sure what the point would be unless it could be repaired. So, does anyone know of a source for Cicada drivers? Does anyone happen to have one or a pair even that they are not using and would be willing to sell? Apparently, Nelson Pass bought all of Craig's stock and then …

These are impressions/mini-reviews of some small floorstanding speakers I've heard over the last 6-8 months or so. They include the Dynaudio Audience 72SE, Sonus Faber Concerto Domus, B&W 804S, Fab Audio Brat, Living Voice Avatar, and Acoustic Zen Adagio. The first 3 were auditioned with Class? & Chord electronics, the others with Korato tube amps and Exposure CD players. Part 1. The mainstream speakers. First the Dynaudio Audience 72SE. My first impression was "are you sure this thing isn't broken?" I've heard a Dynaudio before (the Special 25) and I couldn't believe the 72SE could be this much worse, what I was hearing was awful. Guitars sounded muffled …

I could potentially score a pair within this week, so I just wanted people who have heard/owned the 12L active monitors to speak out about their experiences. To be honest I don't expect optimal performances out of them in my room, because my room is not that great: somewhat thick dry-walls with wooden floors, and I would pretty much have to place them right up against the long wall due to space constraints. And every time I clap my hands, I hear a slight echo in the room. But given all of that, it's a potentially good deal, so I just wanted some opinions on everything from whether it's even worth it for me to get them or how they sound. It's really open-ended. …

I'm working on a pair of speakers that will be 13.5" high, 7" wide, and 14.75" deep at the base. What sort of rule of thumb do you use when choosing appropriate stands? These Dynaudio1 stands just showed up, but I'm not sure they'd be the best match: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?accsrack&1208786474 Any recommendations?

What components do you need in the chain between the cd player and the speakers themselves to drive them and give them volume control? What brands to you recommend and why? ( Price point under $1500; goal involving, full, dynamic, relsoving sound-not too bright or edgy, yet not rollled off on highs, mids well present but not over stated, bass, foundational, but not dominant, boomy or muddy, just tight. Listen to acoustic singer emphsis and jazz. Transparency and immediacy critical. (posted something like this on Source site referring to dac issue and didn't get response.)

What would you guys recommend as a good integrated amp, preferably under 800$, that could handle well Quad 12L2 speakers and that could be use to feed a SRD-7 Mk2/SR-007 at the same time? My source for the moment is an Apogee Duet. Here are the specs of the Quad speakers:

These are getting incredible reviews. Designed by the legendary Andrew Jones, they remind me of a downsized Tannoy, and are priced pretty damned well. Kind of dig their retro vibe too.

Have B&W 805D's and Denon's AVP-A1HDCI Looking at new poweramps and the XPA-1 Gen 2 (https://emotiva.com/products/amplifiers/xpa-1) Specs seem to be pretty good. Anything else I should be considering for my 2.0 setup in the sub $2,000 range?

I'm shopping around for a pair of speaker stands to hold my Quad 11L and I've read conflicting opinions regarding which material is better, so I'm wondering what you guys think? Does it make a noticeable difference? For what it's worth, I'm looking for something around 30 inches, with a budget of 100-120$, so feel free to shoot recommendations.

I created a similar thread at Headfi a while ago and I'll paste the links I was offered over there. I'm now much more serious and once again interested in any good reading for room setup and treatments. I'm especially interested in room design and getting the most performance if one is able to start from complete scratch. The links offered up for those interested: Jon Risch's Web Site- Acoustic Treatments Real Traps Ethan's Magazine Articles Auralex Audioholics Tweaks
