  1. I'm sure they know they need this, but a quad core i7 processor, 16-32GB DDR4 RAM, SSD (256GB minimum, 512-1TB), GTX 970m graphics or higher (probably GTX 980m unless they're going to wait for the probably-much-better GTX 1070m or 1080m,) or the workstation graphics which I don't deal with at all so have no comment on, other than get 4-8GB RAM version The Origin EON15-X Pro (the professional/non-gaming line from where Nate recommended) has desktop processors. The i7-6700k is the processor that Jeff and Chris have in their gaming desktops, if that tells you anything about how powerful it is. M.2 SSDs are super small (2 postage stamp sized, and about half the height of your usual SSD,) so those can be super light, but these aren't quite svelte machines. It'll be smaller than Dusty's, though. **BRENT**

  2. Today I discovered that I could run a virtual big screen display using the aptly named BigScreen. This allows me to run Dirt Rally on a virtual 100" curved screen sitting feet away. While not full the full VR experience (which is coming soon) it is pretty incredible. After that I have re-configured the rig to sit in the corner of my media room and used a little used guest room tv for the display until I get into the Oculus. This makes just ducking in for a game easier. More work to be done on the wire management and I need to sell my TrackIR now but overall very pleased. The only negative I can come up with is the least glare on the Oculus is annoying (Vive is supposed to be better due to different fresnel lenses). It's a minor issue in the racing I've done so far though I'm guessing it is be more annoying in a night rally. Edit: ran a night rally stage and while present I think it was basically a non issue for gameplay

  3. I'm planning on doing the same thing pretty soon. I don't know of any reason not to (and I've checked). Of course, if you have any particularly demanding software you run, you should check support forums for that app. If you're installing El Cap on multiple machines or you plan to do clean installs on any of them, do yourself a favor and make a bootable usb installer drive ( save it just in case). http://osxdaily.com/2015/09/30/create-os-x-el-capitan-boot-install-drive/

  4. Funny thing is that we went through this same thing with the Hifiman abominations. They thought that the 5 pin XLR would somehow work but had to include a Stax adapter anyway. All of this is just so stupid, you need the fucking Stax plug anyway which the normal HF member would never understand. Instead they turn this into the usual "let's defend the manufacturer" instead of calling them on their crap. It's amazing that nothing has changed over there in all this time as we had the same shit 10 years ago...

  5. Somewhat similar, though I'm probably more "wait and see" as opposed to full skeptic.

  6. Are they looking for a truly portable laptop or something that is more "transportable?" Will they be using the laptop screen as a primary display or have it docked to a larger screen for typical use? Do they store lots of media locally or on external drives/cloud?

  7. Some USB devices won't work properly, Mytek DSD192 being an example. But they might work on Thunderbolt.

  8. OMG Doug! I haven't seen that ET for so long. When I first saw Pod People I ranted and raved about it so much that my buddies started calling me Trumpy! I still think it should have been included on Voyager's golden "Hello" disk.

  9. Don't worry, it's 2 years now already, I think its time I make a reappearance on that site to try and set things straight when I hear these new e-stats from Dan. No fuck will be given. I think a new plug means Dan doesn't want people to truly know how craptastic the phones or amplifier is going to be when tested from and against Stax offerings.

  10. At Wicked Weed's Funkatorium. Had chorizo, peppadew, chevre and toasted cumin. Add to that roasted pork with smoked paprika and romesco. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. To me, it seems like the main intent is to create a new ecosystem of phones and amps that don't mix with Stax stuff (and accessorily work around inefficiency issue of current ether E design). I am too close to Stax to be neutral but I don't see MrSpeakers running circles around good old Stax with this. The L700, I feel, is stunning for the price and sounds great out of budget amps. It's thus not an issue of cost and I don't see a new plug changing this. Now, if we're talking about heavily sponsored brands on head-fi that would be given massive exposure for new amps / phones and this special club new plug, I can imagine though that there will be a crowd for this. Not the old farts like us that is... Actually, reading the posts of stillhurt and the likes, it's like they really really welcome something that's not compatible with stax. Meh, head-fi these days... arnaud

  12. No pics but we stopped at President Obama's favorite smokehouse here in Asheville, Twelve Bones. Brisket, smoked turkey, sweet vinegar slaw, jalapeno cheese grits and corn pudding all were awesome. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. a complete wood set of male and female connectors. Going to sound SO much better... The people over there would eat it up. Say $1500 for a pair of connectors. Then upgrade to pure silver pins (doing the same to the tulip females is going to be a bear)

  14. Just checked the thread on HF and I think Dan might indeed be retarded as he got zapped by a Stax plug? First of all, not on anything we or Stax have built. Any idiot knows we put protective measures in place so the risk of a short is non existent. I just love fear mongering like this which has no basis in reality as he's trying to sell the HF idiots onto his stupid idea. So he's going to include adapters anyway to use with the Stax standard and this is somehow makes it easier to source the plug? Yet he is working with some company on a custom plug but they can't make a Stax plug? I mean how stupid is this shit? Also, Stax don't own the plug even if they have used it for 57 years. It is a common design which was widely used back in the day but has only really survived on microphones. Any claims of payments to Stax for the use of "their" plug are just... well fucking stupid. Lastly, he thinks that people will want to use this in a portable setting? Making a portable amp is not easy and well past the know how of most amplifier manufacturers. Any idiot can make something like the King Sound M-03 as it is just opamps feeding transformers. Sounds like shit too... The reality is that most people want to use their portable phones at home. I've certainly received numerous requests to make a home amp for the Shure KSE1500.

  15. Woke up to breakfast and a Father's Day gift. Then hanging out before visiting dad's grave with mom. Steak dinner, followed up by playing catch with the kids until it was too dark to see. 3 hours hanging out with Zoƫ (Xavier wanted to spend the night at my mom's because she has a super comfy chair he wants to sleep in,) and now time for a nap before two days of training at work I have to go in early for. Fairly solid day. **BRENT**

  16. I was rooting for the Warriors but I have to hand it to LBJ and Irving. The Carvs were super clutch down the stretch while the Warriors were living and dying by the 3 toward the very end! Hate to admit but I'm starting to be LBJ fan. His defense was superb through out the series.

  17. Congrats, Cleveland. Well deserved. The King reigned supreme. I can't be mad to lose like that, just disappointed. The biggest shame is that Curry just hasn't been the same player after the injuries. I thought at the time they happened in Houston that that was our season. It is a testament to our team that they were able to go on as long as they did without Curry in peak form.

  18. I don't buy the injury thing. Curry just choked on a level I've never seen. That said, congrats to Cleveland. I usually can't stand Lebron, but he fought for it. The whole team has earned my respect.
