  1. 20V and 0.46A, twice. About the same power as T2 output stage. In the palm of your hand.

  2. 40 years ago, they held up well against everything out there for the same price. As I remember they were $600 a pair. The JBL's were a bit more, and the B&O 5700 were also about $600 a pair.

  3. Got it for about half price off CL. Granted it's the first generation but more than sufficient for what I need.

  7. There are a few ways to do it. If you attach the heatsink to the transistor case, you pay a pretty large thermal penalty. I think the best way is a large land with an attached heatsink.

  8. Nice Marshall. I switch to an electric trimmer after my gasser went tits up after just 4 years. I have a feeling it had similar issues to what you're trying to solve and I didn't have the patience or time to try to disassemble the whole mess.

  9. Sold mine earlier today. Quite sought after by many people with 5 people wanting to purchase it. I'm just glad that I didn't loose any money and get to keep the GS-1 instead.

  11. Just googled the LSR 305... you can't be happier than with $100 5" monitors and call the NS1000s clusterfucks? Okay, buddy..... This is what Yamaha resources nets you, on top of Monel-coated zylon drivers:

  13. Yeah, the guy bought it this spring (from Backcountry) when they were closing them out and used it three times before selling the SUV with the hitch. His truck doesn't have a hitch and he just puts his bike in the bed now (for shame). His loss, my gain. And technically I think you can still buy the NV2 for a bit more than the Sherpa (~$480) if you've got a 1.25" hitch but the 2" version is still nearly $600 thru Amazon. I paid $350 for this one and it has a few marks on it, but not many. Mostly cobwebs to deal with and still has both keys with it. I am going to have to trim one of the front tire scoops so that I can fold it up without using a hitch extension. It needs about an inch more clearance to lock in the up position. I'll order a spare scoop so if I ever want to "return it to stock" I can.

  14. Beryllium is old hat at this point, Yamaha has moved on from the NS1000 beryllium to the NS5000M and zylon now. " The mystery material is a synthetic polymer called ‘Zylon’, which is manufactured in two varieties, Zylon-AS and Zylon-HM. It is used by NASA and in Formula One cars, and according to manufacturer Toyobo’s spec sheet for Zylon, it is indeed lighter and stronger than beryllium, its density 1.55g/cm3 compared with 1.8g/cm3 for beryllium, and its tensile strength 5.8 gigapascals compared with only 0.24 gigapascals for beryllium, and surpassing even carbon fibre at 3.5GPa. Zylon is also amazingly flame resistant, according to Toyobo, hopefully something prospective NS-5000 owners will never need to discover. "

  15. It sounds like I'm starting to have the same problem with my 009's that I had with the 007mk1's I once had, which is a break up of SQ in one of the sides. Now with the 007's this problem was caused by a fault in the cable which occurred around 7 years after getting those Earspeakers, and it's the same problem with my 009's because when moving my head this break up was/is happening in the left ear piece, and to confirm it's the cable I moved it with my hand and that break up was/is happening. So like with the 007's, I'll have my 009's sent off to have a new cable fitted, which is why I kept hold of my 009's original headband in case something like this happened. Fortunately I won't be without listening to Earspeakers because I have my 003mk2's.

  16. Everyone hears differently and has differing priorities. If we were discussing women, Tyll has fallen under the spell of the French Sophie Marceau, while most of us have a hard case of Japanese Yellow Fever. Which is more TOTL? Lol....

  18. Well, I didn't do a direct comparison, so I couldn't do more than a passing comment. Basically, I find e-stats have too much "air". I find there's often an added indistinct haziness around the treble sounds. The Utopia was astonishingly precise and markedly different from pretty much anything I've heard before. It's pretty rough doing a headphone review a week, doubly so when they're so new and unusual sounding. Really, all I can do is take a good first pass on the sound in general and then just wait and see what the collective community has to say over time. It's only then we'll really be able to get a handle on how well these cans perform for people.

  19. Here's an update on the mini. I've got the external regs running now. This thing does throw off quite a bit of heat. I've some sinks on the output transformers now, but I'd like to make them a bit larger. The regulators heatsinks are going to about 140 deg F at their peak and I'm ok with that. I was testing at +/-14V before I put the heatsinks on. The bump up to +/-20V seemed to smooth things out a bit on the top and bottom ends. I'm very happy with this so far

  20. Finally caught the Anolis that was living in our house since we moved in. He/She seemed happy to be outside at a more reptile friendly temperature.
