Did you just leak the new upgraded stator? Liking the size and the gold plated asymmetrical design4 points

I totally enjoyed the race! It was great to see the folks at Force India and Perez grinning! On Sky, Paul di Resta did a great job of explaining how the RB accident happened. If it shows up on Youtube it is worth watching (shows the point of no return). Before I watch it I was dumbfounded how such gifted drivers could do something so stupid. Now I totally understand how it could happen (still taking things too close to the edge though). BTW, it's nice to wait a day before posting spoilers.3 points

Why am I getting the feeling that the Koss ESP950 is a better built headphone for a less than a tenth of the cost?2 points

The thump shouldn't do any damage but it might be a good idea to follow the original and add some relays to the output. Stax used a 4PDT Omron relay but it is rated to nowhere near the specs we really need.1 point

@ Kevin and Kerry; with all these great work and progress being made, will there be a second generation T2 soon that makes use of these advancements and current production parts and maybe a bit smaller in size? I would be happy to organize a GB for it.1 point

Not to my knowledge. I believe it brings the stators to a more positive voltage (closer to the 580V bias). AFAIK, this has been in the DIY T2 build from the beginning and has not caused any issues. From a volume perspective, it's not particularly loud and I can have the headphones on my head when I power down without discomfort.1 point

I finished processing my recordings from The Monterey Jazz Festival back in Sept. and a few tracks from the 2016 festival too. That year I was in the middle of packing up my home in San Jose and dolling it up to sell so I figured I just combine the two. If you go to my SoundCloud page I posted 6 new tracks 2 from the Joshua Redman Quartet 2016 2 from Regina Carter's Southern Comfort Band 2017 2 from a fantastic tribute to Quincy Jones with Christian McBride bass, Hubert Laws flute, Dave Grusin keys, James Carter tenor sax, Lewis Nash drums and Valerie Simpson lead vocals. Here's a taste of Josh Redman playing in one of the medium sized venues ending 20161 point

I don’t have much to add to hugo’s post, agree on the findings except perhaps sounstage which felt a bit more closed in on the 009S compared to 009. I also used my source (sony dap) HP out to drive the T8000 so it wasn’t ideal + noisy environment but I was pleasantly surprised by 009S. These days I am applying dig. EQ to my 009 to take the edge off the mids and boost the subbass a little so I did not think I’d get into the 009S. But what I listened to today was quite promising, the 009S improves on the 009 across the board and I could not find a drawback. It sounds cleaner, fuller body, more natural mids, looses that tendency of 009 to sound thin / agressive at high volume levels and does not loose any treble extension or resolution. I think this one is going to be popular with the mafia given the number of 007 fans and 009 haters ;-). Design wise, besides the official blurb on housing, stators and grill, the pads felt definitely stiffer than the 009 and I bet part of the chances in voicing come from there (perhaps more so than the gold plating of the stators). The 009 really do sound cleaner than 009 from bass quality to transparency overall, the structural redesign of the grill and such may be more influential than I would have thought. It was good to see Sasaki-san there (apparently the head designer Suzuki-san is joining tomorrow) but the new generation of employees seem to be on top of the game already so I can only wish a bright year ahead for Stax. Besides talk on the 009S, Suzuki-san mentionned all D/A related designed are outsourced to edifier (the new portable dac amp fully is), the upcoming dac board addon for the t8000 also won’t come out of Japan (they stick to analog components design). Apart from that, Edifier still leaves Stax full autonomy today it seems.1 point

Good point about the mesh and that it might be even more restrictive. I for one have never felt there to be any real benefit to the mesh in practice but it's hard to know for sure without direct A-B comparisons of identical units except for the stators. In other news, the shitty cable is gone now in favor of a Stax SRE-950S extension cable. I did cut about 1M off it but now it actually reaches my amps... Here is what you get with your 4K$ headphones... It does weigh almost nothing but then again...there is nothing there. With a bit of force I managed to just pull the cables out of the cable entry so no molding going on there. Pull back the techflex and it is just loose wires with the heatshrink at the end used to hold it all together and to secure the cable in the cable entry. Three layers there that I count. Nothing else holding the cable in place unless I missed some glue but I don't think so. The insulation on the wires is also pretty thin and it feels like cheap PVC, it certainly melts easily. The outside diameter of the wires is 0.9mm and the wire itself is 0.3mm so the same on each side to insulate it. Me thinks this is not rated for 1000V+ use but I'd have to break out the HV test jig and zap it multiple times to see how it holds up. One other note, the drivers are wired up as inverted. I decided to keep it like that as it was simply easier to fit the much thicker Stax cables that way in the cups but it should make little to no difference.0 points

As a bit of a counterpoint, I went to a Whole Foods the other day, which had a "Produce Butcher" and a "Cookie Bar". I couldn't find normal hot dog buns so had to make do with disgusting gluten free ones stored in a freezer... they were so crusty that they practically flaked apart when I tried to put the hot dogs in.0 points
