  1. Had Colin, our buddy Mike, and one of Xavier's friends over for the first grill out of the summer on the "vintage" Weber 3 burner grill that came with the house. Had 3 Waygu burgers, 3 pounds of 73/27 ground beef, a few brats, corn, and of course, some Searzall melted cheese on grilled Franz buns. Pulled the larger buns for a smaller burger early on, but got the sizing right-er later. Also, sampler pack of Strongbow Cider and a 6 pack Angry Orchard to go along with it. Great impromptu gathering! Sent from my LG-H932 using Tapatalk

  2. I think that now it´s finished but I want to add a few resistor on the heaters filaments because I have 6.8vAC. Sometimes this happens to me with the Toroidy transformers. Front end tubes draw about 11,5mA. I was surprised that this amplifier has very little gain. On the other hand it makes up for it with a very pleasant and musical sound. I´m waiting a pair of E80CC for replacement the 6189.

  8. I do this walk leading thing now to keep myself out of mischief. So I ended up volunteering to lead our local Ramblers group on their Summer Awayday on a 12 mile route in the Cotswolds yesterday. Biggest group I've taken out so far - 20 turned up! Anyway, this is the group. The little stream just behind us is the early bit of the river Windrush, which is a tributary of the Thames - it joins the Thames after another 35 miles. They all seem to have had a good time from their comments at the end. I'm the guy with the red hat.

  10. Went to PRS Experience today for a couple hours, that was fun. Didn't buy anything. And this is why I don't usually do pictures -- the one guitar I was most fond of -- a beautiful private stock with a magenta/fuchsia top, fretboard, and headstock, didn't come out for some reason (I had just changed my battery). Either that or I forgot to take a picture of it. https://imgur.com/gallery/OqTx9iH

  12. This is the new version of this ES. amp using a pair of Mundorf Supreme EVO instead of input transformers. When using coupling capacitors, the ground is not isolated anymore like a line input transformer with Faraday shield, and <1M grid risistors should be connected to the grids of ECC88 to establish a -420V DC bias voltage, which is the same bias voltage as transformer input version. This capacitor coupled version sounds more straightforward, more transparent, but with less "transformer distortion" which is a fraction of traditional "tuby sound". And finally, the finished amp with power supply unit in one of my friends home.

  15. Oh, I guess I forgot to say: I'm now the Associate Director of Retail Operations and director of the Miami University campus stores. Technically I'm interim, but that is due to the way internal promotions work here, and shouldn't last more than a few months (at which point I'll actually get the pay level at which I'm working). Anyway, the latter title puts me in charge of the "bookstore," and its multiple satellites and external stores, which is a big thing in and of itself, and the former makes me operations director of all kinds of retail locations, including retail foods, many of which don't even exist yet, and which are going to be a real test. I've never supervised hundreds of people, including managers (I'm getting used to now being a "big boss," for large swathes of people). I think I'm doing an okay job. I'm extremely hands on by nature (though the antithesis of a micro-manager, as I trust people until they give me reason not to), and I'm having to get used to not necessarily touching the things I own. I trust my boss implicitly, and I'm being allowed to put together a sub-management team that I trust. Miami University is exhausting, by its very nature, and I work long hours, an hour away from where I live (that is changing come early August; it'll be 35 minutes away), but I really love it. So, any given day I'm doing all of that. I get to dress however I like, which is rather well. I got in 20,000 steps at work, today, in dress shoes. That's more than usual, but 15,000 steps at work is typical. It really works out well for me, in a lot of ways. Miami is getting the best of me. Every day, my energy and time go there. I'm afraid that my family is getting the worst, but I'm doing my best.

  18. Walk of shame. 2.4 miles to get my car abandoned last night due to too drunk to drive in about an hour, all uphill. No hangover today, though, so I had that going for me. If you've seen me post those enormous margaritas at El Paso, those are the mediums. I had a large last night. It was almost large enough to swim in!

  19. I have what seems to be 1cm malignant (well, testing hasn't been definitive, but my mother had thyroid cancer, and the cells are quite abnormal, so they figure it's either early stages of being malignant or will become malignant) tumor. It got caught super early, and I'll get to keep half of it (the thyroid, not the tumor). It will be outpatient, in late August (they really aren't concerned, right?), and I'll just be down for a couple days.
