  2. The packaging for this Speedy is beyond absurd. I'll document it, if I get my table cleaned up some day soon. The screws on the bracelet are either over-torqued or had too much locktite applied. This is a brand new watch, and apparently this isn't uncommon. I'll take it to an AD, where I bet they just swap the bracelet. Otherwise, it wears pretty much just like the vintage one. A little shinier, a more curved crystal (I polished a ding out of mine), and I doubt any friends would notice that it's different.

  3. This was earlier today... Many of you remember the Hummingbird Cafe in Fairfax. Their smoked salmon omelet is really good.

  4. What do you need done? Yes, it’s a 42. This one is basically the same as my pre-moon. The new Rolex GMT, at 40, actually seems larger, due to the lugs and crown and crown guards. Omega hasn’t really changed the dimensions on the Professional, though the bracelet is much more substantial. Most of the other Speedies are larger. I’d love a FOiS. That is an awesome watch.

  6. Not a great picture, but Also, any info on how to remove bracelet marks common to getting during typing on my MacBook? It’s a brushed bracelet on a Grand Seiko. I figured a video and a product link would work. The bracelet was recently serviced (Seiko USA Service Center did a great job, in fact they have a second Grand Seiko of mine now) and just a few light marks. (The strap is from the Moonwatch big box set - all-Black with Stainless hardware, no fabric keepers)

  7. Oh, way thinner. It is about 6.5-6.75 (depending on temperature and activity level) these days. A "regular" strap is a little too long, now.

  8. Yeah, I think the Sonoma is more a "lifestyle" item than an audiophile thing. You know, young exec who owns a BMW, a full set of Danish modern furniture, and wants a stylish headphone set to display - sort of like a B&O system.

  11. If I'm going to have a modern GMT Master (and it has really grown on me over the course of the day), I figured I might as well have a modern Speedy. An unworn 311.30.42.30.01.005 (boy, that's easy to remember) arrives tomorrow. Quite a good price from DavidSW. I figured I'd get the newest, but I wanted the Hesalite crystal. It appears that this comes with two NATOs. If anybody wants an Omega NATO (assuming that both included straps are Omega), I'd be happy to sell one (or both) for a good price. I would wear this on my grey and black NATO.

  12. Nice! I had a 16710 GMT for a few years that started life with a black bezel, although I swapped in a Coke insert and wore it like that until it got flipped in some gear frenzy.

  13. It's growing on me (I've had it for almost exactly 3 hours, now). It's certainly a much dressier watch than the 1675, but also a little undercover. Though I suppose most people will think it's a Sub, even with the fourth hand and the 24 hour bezel. It's really neat how the ceramic bezel changes color with the light, though.

  14. Did you read the Amazon reviews? Apparently anyone can access your speakers by bluetooth. One person said they were well built and sounded good but he woke up to music blaring one night after his neighbor figured out he could access the speakers. Funny unless you are the one who is pranked.

  17. This was a 2lb cowboy ribeye and a bottle of 2012 Ornellaia for lunch at Quality Meats. The I-Banker bros three inches away at the next table (yay NY) were giving off strong “who’s this fucking tourist?” vibes so I had to go for the surreptitious shot. On the other hand, I also got to eavesdrop on their genius-level strategic analysis. Example: “You know I really think the sooner we can get something signed, the faster the whole deal will go.” [emoji966][emoji966][emoji966]

  18. It's Nate vs. Brisket time again. I was able to find a whole packer in the 8lb range, which when trimmed a bit was down in the 6s, perfect for a meal + leftovers. It's been on since 4, seems to be stalling in the low 150s, so I'll wrap it shortly and am going to try cooking this one more by feel than by internal temp. Temps haven't seemed like very good predictors for me for tenderness so here's to hoping.

  19. Yesterday: Bachelor Night 3 A James Bond Martini: Their take on a Vesper (which I patiently explained to the waitress was the proper name). Uses a Riesling instead of Vermouth and a thinly sliced cucumber. Interesting enough for me to drink two. Escargot on a puff pastry Bacon, potato and leek soup A nice chenin blanc Lobster Sauté Cafe con leche Butterscotch Crème brûlée Not sure I can take a fourth night

  21. Facebook surfaced this for me, which is the first time it's ever suggested anything remotely relevant ... https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/meater-the-only-wire-free-smart-meat-thermometer-food-technology#/ I'm not even going to bother with innuendoes, as they literally make themselves!
